    Herb Jones

Based off tweets from Erik Martin and Corie Blount this week, Herb Jones is not doing well right now in some regard. They’ve asked for prayers. No one is disclosing the specifics. I’m assuming that’s on the request of Herb.

    Here is Corie's tweet https://twitter.com/CorieBlount/stat...77732178075648

If you'll recall, Herb Jones was inducted into the UC Athletics HOF this year and I believe he was not in attendance. Seems like things have been kept under wraps, but needless to say he's not been well. Prayers for HJ.

RIP #34. He was major in putting UC back on the map. Wishing his family the best in this difficult time. He was only 51.

          RIP Herb
Lost a great person today. My college teammate and our leader from our Final Four team. Herb Jones was the nicest most humbled person I’ve ever met. All he wanted to do was hoop fish n laugh. At a loss for words right now. This hurts.

Herb Jones has passed away after a battle with liver and lung cancer. One of my favorite Bearcats. RiP Herb

I'm pretty bummed about this to be honest. I rode the coattails of the 91-'92 team all the way to Minneapolis as a senior in college. Herb was a huge, huge part of getting UC to that stage.

For those who never saw him play he was 6'3 on a good day basically playing power forward. Herb was deadly on the block. Once he got the ball he had the footwork and strength to get the ball into the hoop almost everytime he touched it. He usually went up with two hands on the ball and more often than not laid it off the boards into the basket. He was very tought to defend. To this day, I've never seen a player at UC so adept at using the boards to his advantage on the offensive end with the possible exception of Danny Fortson.

Herb was quiet. Except on the court. Despite only being here for two years, he was a great Bearcat and he was the glue on that Final Four team.

I remember Herb playing very vividly. Great ball player and never one to trash talk. He let his play do all the talking. I did not realize his condition was so severe and am saddened by this news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.

Here's a nice highlight montage from Fox19 back in the day via Corie Blount. Nice to see, as I was just a bit too young to remember watching him. https://twitter.com/CorieBlount/stat...79665680195587

I’m 6’2, and when I met him I’d have guessed he was at least 2-3 inches taller. Maybe it was the shoes. If 6’8 he’d have been a perennial NBA all star and member of the HOF. He was that good. He was so smart, always in the right place. Tremendous person too.
