  • Name and Likeness

The NCAA has been working with Congress to iron the details of the Name and Likeness policies for allowing college athletes to profit off themselves via iamges and endorsements while still enrolled in school. Today it came via Zach Barnett at FootballScoop.com that is this is probably going to happen as soon as next year along with the transfer rules.

I believe the preliminary conference regarding this vote is today. We'll probably know more about the likelihood of it passing very soon. I expect it to be voted on and pass. If it doesn't there's going to be a ton of lawsuits against the NCAA.

LOL, they punted it to Congress.

Mark Emmert on NCAA call: "As the legal and legislative landscape around college sports continues to evolve, we also see the challenges that are around us to positively affect change. ... It’s clear we need Congress’ help in all of this.

Per CBS, there will not be a cap on player endorsements, though boosters are not allowed to pay for a player to endorse their product. This one will get tricky as corporations are sometimes boosters and sometimes it is company officers.

The unfortunate part about some of this is that there is no leeway on group endorsements, which means NCAA Sports video games are still dead.

This article about NIL was in this morning's edition of the Dallas Morning News. It might be paywalled but give it a read if you can.
