  • Domestic violence in athletics

Obviously, no one can condone domestic violence, but can you forgive enough to allow a second (or third) chance to athletes on scholarship? Should the scholarship be tied to ethical, legal, or in general offensive behavior?

As a discussion topic, what thoughts would you guys and gals have if the NCAA (and Power5) were to allow student athletes a chance to play, but put some limitations on amount of scholarship up to and including requiring student athletes with significant violations to pay their own way?

Tough call because a lot of times the cases are dropped because the witness won't testify &/or the charge gets a plea to a lesser misc. charge. So how do regulate discipline to athletes that are not charged vs the ones that are charged & convicted?
It should not be tolerated at any level(PERIOD).

Or the charge was based on a lie.

It happens more often than you think.

I was thinking a conviction in court of law would be basis for any scholarship limitation. False accusations are nothing new with athletes or public figures. Surely there can be a way to deter such behavior.

Many times the athlete's reputation is trashed in the media, both traditional and social, on the accusation. But you rarely hear about the charges being rescinded or tossed.
