Why wait for a new ESPN contract? Expand to 12 teams, play four games at college campuses (Network TBD), then 4 more games (sites and network TBD) and this will simply determine the 4 team CFP to which ESPN has the rights. Let the other games go out to bid to Fox, CBS, etc...If ESPN doesn't want those 8 games, some other network will eat them up.
Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

I haven't seen the media contracts, but I'd be surprised if the language doesn't include verbiage prohibiting changes to the playoff system without network approval.

That makes sense with ESPN also televising the CFP rating and all of the hype leading up to the event. It sure would be nice to let ESPN have the final 3 games and let other networks bid on the leadup games. Anything to get this sooner rather than later.

They’ve been hiding the expansion plan for 2 years.

Here's a potential fly in the ointment of setting up the 12-team playoff (if the Rose Bowl is too stubborn to move their game from 1/1).

Don't you all love how Clemson's Head Coach "Dabo Swinney" is opposed to the 12-team playoff. https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrC...5X07w9kV59r.A-

I really feel that if the expansion happens, and with the NIL, and keeping Fick, UCs recruiting is going to continue to grow and eventually reach top 25 rankings because of the easier access to playoff (being able to stay the top of the G5), potential to make some marketing money in a city with a lot of marketing dollars, which in turn (over time) would allow UC to generate more media money, if not from the AAC, then for themselves directly.. Does anybody know if UC retains its own 3rd tier TV rights or is that too controlled by AAC?

This may be put on the backburner thanks to Texas and OU. ($)

Should the 12 team CFP actually happen, I think the CFP will call out the Rose Bowl's bluff. Call it something different. If the Rose Bowl has a quarterfinal game, play it at 2 on Jan 1. If Rose Bowl has championship or semi-final, then keep the Rose Bowl JAn 1 at 2 with best Pac-12 and B!G team not in CFP. This is a win and extra money for Rose Bowl. Hopefully, they aren't so stubborn as to cut off their nose to spite their face. The CFP could move forward with remaining bowls and lock out the Rose Bowl, though that is less likely.

As to SEC expansion and 12-team playoff, I doubt the SEC could field more than 3 teams in CFP. At some point, losing multiple games to good teams drops you in CFP rankings. Most years SEC will get 3 teams in, likely 2-3 for B!G. I don't see the SEC getting more teams into a 12 team playoff because some of those teams will have to lose.
