  • NFL and TE U

Jeff West (Bengals) was the first TE from UC to go to the NFL. He was also a Punter. I think I remember him from a football card I had as a kid to be honest.

We're all more familiar with Brent Celek, Blake Annen, Adrien Robinson, Travis Kelce and Josiah Deguara. You could even throw in Connor Barwin. And yes, Roderick Monroe (RIP).

Obviously the current focus is on Travis Kelce with this being Super Bowl week. So some articles, and I have to admit I like 19's video but they're calling us a blossoming TE U which frankly is selling us short.

Josh Whyle and Leonard Taylor, C'mon down.

I also want to add that after many years I finally found a resource of every Bearcat to ever go to the NFL including the UDFA guys. This is everyone that was drafted and everyone that wasn't that has played.

What a great link. If you use this list and people's Career AV, the best UC player in the NFL was a Kelce, but it wasn't Travis it was his brother. Here are the top ten UC players in the NFL sorted by CAV.

    CAV
    72 Jason Kelce
    70 Trent Cole
    69 Travis Kelce
    62 Brig Owens
    60 Joe Morrison
    58 Jason Fabini
    50 Connor Barwin
    49 Derek Wolfe
    45 Sam Garnes
    45 George Jamison

Jeff West was a great punter for UC. He had the ability to kick it really high, resulting in fantastic hangtime. I think he went to the NFL as a punter, not a TE.

Arguably the best player from the Bearcats to go on to the NFL was Greg Cook. His career was cut short by a rotator cuff injury that could be easily repaired today. Not so much in 1970.
