  • Houston 11/7 3:30 ABC

Houston is hard to figure out this year. This is partially because of a lack of sample size. They had their first 4 games canceled or postponed and are only 2-2. When they've been on the field they've run a good offense but the defense is lacking and they've been outscored by higher profile offenses in UCF and BYU. Dana Holgorsen is an air raid guy so chuck it deep and hope for a penalty is a strategy here against our defense.

Like the offense for the last two teams we've played, Houston has playmakers on the outside. They don't run the ball particularly well and don't have a rushing play over 18 yards on the year. QB Clayton Tune is not afraid to take off with the ball and is the 2nd leading rusher on the team. In the passing game, I'll just assume Ahmad Gardner will be on Marquez Stevenson all game.

I think the key for UC will be avoid a let down which probably won't happen on our home field. The offensive play calling needs to work around Houston's Grant Stuard at linebacker. He's the best player on the Houston defense and we need to keep the Houston DEs out of the backfield. They have a 7 sacksin 4 games between the two ends.

Holgorsen just stated to Houston media that he doesn’t think Stevenson is going to play this weekend. That’s huge.

No injury updates on our side from Bush, Pierce and LaBelle.

UC rolls, and wins by 30 (again).

Houston has missed two practices this week. One for the election and another due to the fatal shooting of a former player.

With the loss of practices and KEY players, plus playing @ home if we don’t win, and win big we should bring in the “authorities” and have a massive investigation.

That was an odd game. It seemed like we were just kind of slogging along at 7-0 until the midway point of the 2nd qtr during that long time consuming drive and then boom, we put up 21 points and went into the half at 28-10. I suggested on Twitter that we were sleepwalking the game a bit and got rebuked by the equipment manager. (?!?). Seemed like we started slow but can't argue with the end result at all. 342 yards on the ground and two 100 yard rushers seems like a good thing any of day of the week.

I thought White, Van Fossen and Bryan Cook played great games on defense. Doaks with 184 yards rushing and Ridder with 4 TDs on offnse.

Weird stat of the day was Cole Smith logging a solo tackle on a kickoff.

We took care of business. Ridder winning games again with his legs. Doaks doing what he does best. Short passing OK but it appears he really misses Alex Pierce on those long plays. Commentators were right on when they suggested he would be a totally complete quarterback if he had a better touch on the long ball. Defense played their usual stellar game. A few breakdowns but giving up only 10 points to Houston not so bad.
