  • Justin Williams On UC Football After the 1st Scrimmage

The link below (The Athletic, $) mentions several topics concerning the state of UC football following the first scrimmage this past Saturday. Justin Williams, as is the case for all media, is not permitted at Camp Higher Ground, but he spoke to a few members of the staff. Topics range from Covid-19 quarantines (a few players, none named, with the WR room apparently affected), to young players making an impact, to Fickell trying to schedule one more game on 9/26/20, before the Cats start AAC play on 10/3/20. ACC & B12 teams, thus far, have shown no interest in playing a team as strong as UC.

Interesting tidbit from Enquirer article today:

Fickell said a pleasant surprise so far in camp has been walk-on wide receiver Dalrone Donaldson. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound junior joined the Bearcats this season from Hutchinson Community College.

"I would say a lot of people had no idea who he was," Fickell said. "Maybe even when he first came to campus he was quarantined for a while, so that was even another 10-12 days that nobody knew who he was."

Passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli recruited Donaldson when the Miami, Florida, native was in high school. Fickell said a true test for Donaldson will be how he looks against sophomore cornerback Ahmad Gardner, who returns as one of the top defensive backs in the country.
