  • Update on UC PK status?

We had been spoiled by a series of great kickers, then the last two years were not very good. Anybody have any updates on new PK's, perhaps a unknown transfer? PK needs big time improvement for 2019.

gobearcats.com lists 3 PK's on the roster: Cole Smith (SO), Ryan Jones (SR) & Grant Simon (RS FR).

Smith and Jones have been very inconsistent so far. Any hope that Grant Simon will be any better?

Haven't seen Simon kick other than HS highlights below but I think a fair expectation for a RS Freshman is that he'll kick like Cole Smith did last year or the two guys will be at the same level. I expect Smith to be better this year with more experience under his belt. Ryan Jones is really a punter and kickoff guy. If you watch Simon's highlights he appears to have good leg strength on kickoffs but there's no highlights of him making a FG beyond the 30.

I think Cole Smith was forced into it as a Freshman and it didn't go well for him. I think, like Brent said, with a little experience he can improve. It can't be much worse...

Yeah, I mean what's the success rate of true freshman kickers at the FBS level? It's probably not great. I'm not sure the average freshman has the mental aspect of the game down at that point in life and with kickers it's practically all mental sometimes.

Welp Chris. You got your wish. Transfer Sam Crosa is the starting kicker.

Looks like he is pretty good with going 10-14 last year. Thanks for the update Lobot!
