Starting to see the mid season bowl projections roll out. Stewart Mandel at the Athletic has us in the Birmingham Bowl vs. Boise St.

Good opponent at least. I went when UC last played there. Kelly was coach and Ben Mauk was the QB. Fun bowl actually, although not the best location for a bowl game.

Agreed! Would love to go back. Wondering why FedEx CEO (and big Memphis sponsor) doesn't put pressure on Liberty Bowl committee to make this a featured AAC bowl.

I'm going to go with the Belk Bowl. The sheer euphoria after Duke fumbled at the UC 1/2 yard line, Travis Kelce 84 yard TD pass two plays later, and then UC scores again after an interception...all in about 90 seconds! That was bonkers!

Agreed, the Belk Bowl was fantastic (plus COLD!!). That would be my second choice!

SI has slotted us in the Birmingham bowl as well from earlier this week. I'll update these as they redo all them for this weekend's games.

For reference these are the Conference bowl tie-ins this year. Decisions are made based on matchup and geography. There's no slottting by record. Birmingham would likely be the best opponent while the Military Bowl is the closet geographically.

Technically can't a bowl arrange a deal between conferences to swap affiliations if it makes sense for both sides of the bowl? ie geographic reasons, etc.

I think the general rule there is if a conference doesn't qualify enough teams to fill a bowl afiilaition, they can arrange something if they're higher in the pecking order. The Liberty Bowl has done that a few times recently.

It's a good thing we have 7 bowl slots. We're going to need all of them. The AAC currently has 6 bowl eligible teams and two more knocking on the door at 5-5.
