  • You can't lose all optimism, remember the AAC was much improved in fball last year, and i do not believe the wins over the ACC were flukes. This is a better fball league than folks give it credit for. The majority of the schools(and their states) have earmarked to improve their fball presence for obvious reasons. I do believe the AAC will see bigger fball $'s at some point.

    • IMHO until the AAC gets some better bowl contracts, we will always be considered a "junior" conference. Liberty Bowl would be a good start. FedEx needs to exert some pressure and influence. Good for Memphis and good for the rest of us.

      • According to the leaked data Dennis Dodds at CBS got a hold of, the CFP percentage for the big 12 goes up 10-15% with expansion and 8 game comnference schedule. Note that this is not the same thing as 4-5 % percentage with a CCG. Two different stats.

I think Bowlsby "leaked" the 4-5% number because he is personally against expansion. The story also states that moving to an 8 game conference schedule would be cause to renegotiate the TV contract because a nine game schedule gives more inventory games and conference games make more money. I disagree with that math because 10 teams playing a 9-game schedule is 45 games and 12 teams playing an 8-game schedule would result in 48 conference games. I'd further argue that the best schedule would be to play the same 8 teams every year, four home and away series, with a ninth conference game every three years against someone else not in the every year 8. This would result in an imbalanced home game slate and could be overcome by ponying up extra cash for non-conference foes to play at a Big 12 house. This would mean 57 game in-conference inventory, plus a conference championship game and (being honest) the additional home game can even be given as a reward to on field performance on a three year basis. If you finish in the top six overall three year combined record, then you get two home games the next three years and if you finish in the bottom six, then you only get one of those extra home conference games.
Here is link to the story:

            • It seems to me that if 2 teams play in each conference game then the 8 game schedule would include a total of 40 games and a 9 game schedule would mean 45 games. Expanding to 12 teams and playing an 8 game schedule would mean a total of 48 conference games.

                  • Also. One source which I'm trying to find is floating the news that Texas is pressuring TCU and Tech to vote against expansion. They (we) need an 8 of 10 super majority vote to expand. Tech usually votes with Texas anyway but TCU is apparently against it because Texas folks helped TCU get in during the last round. Chris Del Conte , AD at TCU has been pretty vocally against expansion. I have no idea what the executive wing thinks though.

                      • This is the mess that happens when you allow one member to go it's own way. The old saying that you have to confront problems head on before they turn into major, major problems certainly applies here.

I really think the best solution to all this is to kick Texas to the curb and move on without them. If Texas wants to run it's own show, let them. They're not going to change direction willingly.
