Oklahoma is considered a pretty good academic school. OU does not have a medical school and perhaps as a result they're not part of the AAU but neither is Nebraska. Nebraska used to be and got removed. I actually thought both were until I looked it up here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associ...ies#Membership

While we're on the subject of AAU, I haven't heard anything about UC gaining membership lately and then I noticed on that link that it's by invite only and with Ohoi State in it, I suspect we won't be invited due to politics. We hashed over all this a long time ago and I remermber little :/

On your side bar, I really have no idea.

Here's OU's entry If you want to look around. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Oklahoma

While I have no reason to doubt that OSU (I refuse to use the "t") would see UC's membership in the AAU in an unfavorable light, I wonder how the process actually goes, and whether ONE school can "blackball" a potential invite to another, especially if the possible invitee meets all the criteria for membership and the attempted block would be seen by all the other members as a truly petty move.

Since a lot of whatever occurs within and surrounding the B12 rests on what Texas does, here's article that lays out an argument for the Longhorns to go indy:

This guy pretty much echoes what many Texas Longhorn fans (and probably the UT administration) really believe. That is..... that UT football could enjoy the same type of national prominence that Notre Dame does if they went the Independent route. Talk about arrogance. Does anyone outside the state of Texas (and of course UT alums) watch the Longhorn Network? I seriously doubt it, but don't tell them that and spoil their little party down in Austin.

If it opens up a spot for us alongside Oklahoma, et al, then let's all root for the Longhorns and their network to go independent. Remember, though, the Irish always had a conference home for all their other sports - anyone believe the BIG 12 would let them leave for football and stay for everything else? If not, which conference would - the ACC?
