Big East closing in on new deals - Mark Blaudschun

Big East will discusss future in Dallas meeting - Mark Blaudschun

Based on the articles referenced, it sounds like Aresco's working on one set of numbers for next year on ESPN (still with the Catholic 7 and other defectors in BB, and possibly L'ville & Rutgers in FB), and a separate set of numbers beyond that with another deal (Fox Sports, ESPN, other) for the newly constituted league.

I've been searching far and wide for information on what's going on and I've read quite a few "sources" that say there are basically 2 deals going on as well.

Also, to anyone who has time and is amused by such things, there is an amazing amount of message board chatter going on other places about the upcoming moves. Be it Mountain West people, Houston people, UMass people, MAC people, etc. It's all very enjoyable to watch them all bickering with each other over what is going to happen and what is best for their school (The MAC people are doing a lot of pipe dreaming, for example). If anyone finds this stuff amusing, do a quick Google search or two and have some fun.

All that stated, the only "information" I've found is that multiple places seem to be reporting that Houston has had some vague talks with the Mountain West and that SDSU may not have the votes to get back in, even if they want to.

Amid defections and uncertain TV deal, Big East meets

        Dallas:
Commissioner Mike Aresco will meet with Big East presidents and athletic directors Friday in Dallas to plot realignment strategies and address other issues regarding current and future members.

Before they can decide on having a conference championship game past 2014, they must determine membership numbers.

San Diego State, which will be represented at the meeting, has until the end of the month to decide if it will stay in the Mountain West.
