  • Game 5: Hall of Fame Classic - Illinois 11/22 6:30 ESPNNews

This game is in Kansas CIty and will be followed by Game 6 against either Arkansas or Kansas St on 10/23

Illinois Center Kofi Cockburn (pronounced Co-burn) is expected to be back for this after serving on NCAA suspension for selling team issued apparel will he was in the draft process before returninig to Illinois. He hasn't played all season but I'm assuming he's been practicing. He was an All-American last season so it's probably good things we have 3 guys that can theoretically guard him.

Without Cockburn in the line up on Tuesday, #10 Illinois was upset by Marquette. Their two Ws are blowouts over Jacksonville State and Arkansas St. I did not see the game vs. Marquette but it appears they went with a 4 guard lineup which is probably not what we'll see from them with Cockburn on the floor. Leading scorer Trent Frazier missed a game earlier due to injury but it appears he played on Tuesday.

Here's a piece from a Fansided Illini blogger re their 67-66 loss to Marquette. He didn't mention that Kofi Cockburn didn't play, but did stress that the Illini turned it over 26 times in the loss. I don't think we can expect them to do that again. Even with the TO's, they lost by only one point.

Illinois is perhaps overrated this year, with many overlooking the loss of one time UC recruit Ayo Dusonmo. But getting Cockburn back (in general, but of course specific to this game) is a big boost to say the least.

UC lost by 24 to Illinois in the 2004 NCAA Tournament in the 4/5 game and later in 2014 in Vegas by 22 when Illinois was #1 and UC was just inside the Top 25

So the best that can happen is we get a huge upset and let everyone know how good we are going to be this year. The worst is we lose and we find out how much more work has to be done. I don't see anything bad here.

DIII transfer Austin Hutcherson (6'6) has yet to play but is expected to suit up tonight. Brad Underwood calls him Illinois' best shooter and athlete.

One thing's for sure. Today and tomorrow we're going to find out where we really are. We did not recieve any votes in either poll despite the 4-0 start. I won't be surprised if we come out of this 4-2 but if we're 5-1 or 6-0 after this week, we should be ranked or at least receive a few votes.

Viktor Lakhin will play tonight per Rothstein/MIller

We will definitely see just how good we are defensively, especially down in the paint in these next two games.

Saunders and Lahkin gotta start. We can’t play Cockburn 1-on-1 in the post.

Wes made some adjustments and we've clamped down on Cockburn...

Way to fight back down 15pts in the 1st half.. To take a 3pt lead at half time... Great fight in this year's TEAM!

Talk about getting punched in the face but not backing down. This team shows some grit.
