Just realized this is a two day thing. Coaches Clark-Heard and Miller, Arame Niang and Jeremiah Davenport will join between 1035-1125 am on Thursday

Wes Miller, in response to a question from Justin Williams about defensive reputation and selling kids on defense: said guarding people and rebounding wins games. [Sounds familiar... Cronin was always defense and rebounding, defense and rebounding.]

Missed the prior question but caught part of his answer, in which he seemed to say it was intentional in their summer recruitment to try to bring in guys with high level experience (Newman, Oguama, Ado in addition to DeJulius)

Wes says staff is really high on the team's depth - should be a strength on the team if utilized correctly ... mentions competitive practices, iron sharpening iron

Asked by ESPN studio host about Koval and Ado (both top 2 NCAA active shot block leaders) about possibly playing together -- Wes says Koval bothers more shots than he blocks, says Ado has been a top defensive interior defender in the SEC for years, adds that what is lost in the conversation is Viktor Lakhin has great rim presence, praises Oguama around the basket/defensively as well.... "we are going to try to play big" and play two guys together (seems like not necessarily Koval and Ado but two of those four guys), want to get those guys out on the floor learning how to cover smaller guys, can be a really good team if we can figure out how to play two bigs at a time

From day one, it has been a thrill to coach and interact with Jeremiah Davenport... his energy, charisma is infectious. You can see it on the court (saw on tape when considering job), but that's how he is daily, he lifts you up when around him, absolutely thrilled with him, work ethic this summer admirable and has really improved... he puts winning above all else, which is a great leadership quality, his versatility is important, working on his shot this summer and can shoot as well as anyone in the league, challenging JD to be best offensive rebounder in AAC at his position - video https://twitter.com/American_MBB/sta...70215529811977

[Yikes, ESPN graphic shows top returning players as Davenport and Ado (?) and lists incoming players as CJ Anthony only]

        Davenport interview
        - Great vibes around the program, Wes brings a lot of energy and loves his players
        - Asked about size and shot blockers: frees up the guards, adds rim protection
        - Asked about his role changing the last two years and development this off season: always trying to get better each day, teammates and family pushing him, goal each day is to get better -- video: https://twitter.com/American_MBB/sta...71747264352258
        - Asked about being an ambassador for the program with new coach and players: university speaks for itself, guys here now should know about history/background, people should know about UC already so "no and yes" about serving in that role

It's hard to argue with being predicted to finish 6th, though I will take it after the Brannen ugly exit. The AAC is tougher in basketball than in football, top to bottom. I don't expect this will be as bad a "down year" as it could've been. Wes gives a lot of credit to JD, but he exudes a personality/aura of leadership too. The kids on the floor and in practice, will feed off JD and play hard for Wes. This team has potential, and I am excited to see how they grow together this season.

I am not sure that I agree with his assessment of the Bearcats. It seems like he has not done his homework.
