Memphis continues to load up, after winning the NIT while blowing out everybody. It took awhile, but Penny looks like he's getting it going.

Memphis has added a few transfers recently, including yesterday bringing back Tyler Harris who played 2 years at Memphis before playing last season at Iowa State.

But yesterday, AAC Freshman of the Year Moussa Cisse entered the portal, the fifth player to go into the portal -- including Boogie Ellis (AAC 6th Man of the Year / Memphis' 3rd leading scorer) and DJ Jeffries (4th leading scorer). Cisse was a 5-star and #10 in the 2020 class, while Ellis was #38 and Jeffries #52 in the 2019 class, all per 247.

It appears they can attract the talent but something is lacking once they get there. Watching them play, they try to survive on talent with very little discipline or offense. They can recruit based on sexy coaching name but X's and O's can't keep them there. You would think after an NIT waltz and huge prospects for the coming year that guys would buy in and stay but not the case.
I would love to have Cisse.

Alterique Gilbert -- 3rd team all-AAC at Wichita -- in the portal, per Verbal Commits.

He's been in college five years already, with the first four at UConn (including just nine games during his first two seasons combined).

That something lacking is called coaching I believe. Penny can recruit (wink wink) but can't gel all those big egos. That's just the down side of getting all those elite 4 & 5 stars together. JMHO.

                          ESPN.com article on AAC recruiting ($) https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...ing-jobs-tiers

If anyone wants to share any tidbits, feel free Obviously, it will probably be largely about Memphis.

This article breaks the recruiting situations down into tiers.

                            1. Memphis
                            2. Houston and UC
                            3. WSU, SMU and Temple
                            4. UCF, USF, Tulsa
                            5. ECU, Tulane

It makes the point in Memphis that Memphis kids want to stay home and play for the program so they get their pick of local talent. When the article gets to UC, the focus on local recruiting is more complicated because XU is across town and you're surrounded by Big Ten teams. Funny thing about ECU is they're surrounded by powerhouse ACC programs but UC is forecast to recruit NC better than ECU because of Wes Miller.
