  • Old UC games on TV, YouTube

Randomly, there are two UC games from the Cronin era that I found on demand (Spectrum). One was the 2013 Jimmy V Classic, in which UC beat Pittsburgh in a very low scoring affair. There are a bunch of Jimmy V games, so I get why this is on there and I look forward to re-watching this rock fight.

What I do not understand is the game I watched last night: UC defeats Louisville 58-57 at Freedom Hall on January 1, 2008. My notes on the game below.

But there are some full UC games on YouTube as well. Might be fun to share some links and memories/analysis on here. I will update if I watch more, but perhaps others will too (or this thread will go nowhere ).

    UC/Louisville - 1/1/2008
    - Cronin's second season (looked so young and definitely skinnier - must have hit the weights with Larry Davis soon after)
    - Talent was pretty subpar -- took another three years to make the NCAA, but looking back at this game, shows how far the program came under Cronin
    - Deonta Vaughn had a quiet two points in the first half but hit something like 3/4 from three in second half and some important FTs
    - John Williamson had a stellar offensive performance. He was a really key player in those first two years, if I recall correctly, but he was so undersized (and not able to play as big as an Eric Hicks)
    - Marvin Gentry was a nice spark off the bench, scoring 10 or so points (mostly in first half)
    - Rashad Bishop a solid game - I enjoyed his play
    - Adam H -- tough day at the office. Fouled out in pretty minimal minutes. Scored two points. Was really struggling out there and an announcer even said "poor guy" at one point
    - Biggie McClain played some solid minutes in place of Adam H. I remember him showing a lot of potential that day but obviously didn't do a ton over the course of his career.
    - Jamual Warren ran point - his shorts were so baggy (as were most of UC's guards)
    - Marcus Sikes played limited minutes but enough to get an ESPN graphic that said his favorite book was "Green Eggs & Ham"
    - Larry Davis played a little, as did Alvin Mitchell; Kenny Belton made a brief cameo performance; Darnell Wilks on bench (not sure if I'm forgetting anyone else)
    - Louisville shot so poorly that game and didn't have a ranking, but just saw they made the Elite 8
    - David Padgett (interim HC before Chris Mack hired) returned from a 10 game absence from injury to a standing ovation, was a beast
    - Other UL players included Edgar Sosa, Jerry Smith, Juan Palacios, Derrick Caracter (believe he was highly touted, transferred to UTEP), Terrence Williams, Andre McGee (I think this was that UL assistant from a few years ago...)
    - Three person broadcast, including Doug Gottlieb

Yea scrolling through you tube to watch old videos of K mart, the final four game UC vs. the fab four of Michigan appeared so I saved it to watch later and was planning on revisiting that memory later on today.

I always lament that the Regional Final versus Memphis cannot be found (at least on YouTube); that was the year UC beat them four times and each time by a greater margin.

I would be very interested in watching these old games if someone can give me exact links. Also, I don't know about the legality, but it occurred to me that some forum members might have real gems on VHS and if so maybe they could be digitized and uploaded somewhere. I kept UC-N. Carolina, UC-Marquette (the Donald Little game), UC-Duke, and a few others for years, but alas I trashed them when I retired and moved a few years ago.

I have UC-Minnesota (1st game at the Shoe) that someone on here transferred to a DVD for me a few years ago. I think I have UC-Duke on VHS and the entire Final Four run from '92 on VHS as well.

This is what I could find in a bout 20 minutes. There's a few more UC vs X games out there but they're under an hour and I can't tell if they're full games or not.

              UC vs. Missouri 2011 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5TF_pMmzA0

This was a fun one. Mick's first NCAA game (and W) at UC. #6 seed vs. #11 Mizzou. Forgot how solid that UC squad was and a shame they had to play UConn in the Round of 32. Per KenPom, this was UC's best offensive team until the #6 and #2 seeded teams in 2017 and 2018. Lot of solid juniors and seniors plus young talent in Cashmere Wright and freshman Sean Kilpatrick off the bench. Yancy played well.

I've got a few games on DVD. UC-Syracuse in the BE tourney in 2012. I also have the Florida State NCAA game from 2012. That might have been Mick's best team.

I had forgotten just how close that semi final of 92 was against the very over hyped fab four of michigan. Hind sight is always 20- 20 but Huggs began his pressure defense and they had mich. on ropes even in much of the second half. It was even shown how frustrate rose and howard were. I couldnt help but think that that at that precise moment huggs should have brought scott back in ( he already had two fouls on him and played just a few minutes) just to cover howard extensively. At that critical.point I think howard might have become wreckless having to deal with. scott being handsy. Rose was basically held in check. Still the good guys played a good game albeit many turnovers. And yes UC beating Memphis and hardaway four times, FOUR TIMES in one uear is one of my fondest sports memories. Thanks lobot for the youtube links. Be safe gentlemen

I would definitely be interested in a copy of any UC games some might have. I have about 15-20 I bought about 15 yrs ago from someone who had a posting online. Wish I had bought every tape they had. They were the full tv broadcast including the commentary when they broke for commercial.

Bearcat Watch Party this week will rebroadcast the 1992 UC vs Memphis State game at the Pyramid where Corie Blount was nice enough to damage the basket and set off a 45 minute delay until they found another one.
