  • Ohio State 11/7 6:00 ESPN2

Time to start the regular season off right. This game is a total sellout so we're going to see how loud the place gets in the new configuration.

Here's the incoming roster for Ohio State. There obviously aren't any stats to post at this point. You might recognize Luther Muhammad who we recruited pretty heavily during the last cycle.

Andy Katz has the Buckeyes finishing 12th in the Big Ten.

    12. Ohio State: The Buckeyes are major unknown, maybe the toughest team to slot in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes were better than expected a season ago. This could be the bridge season. Wake Forest transfer Keyshawn Woods may end up helping Ohio State finish higher. But recruiting is going so well that the expectation is the Buckeyes will be back near the top soon.

this is something i didn't seen mentioned after the exhibition game. the crowd was generally quiet, but when the walk-ons came in at the end, it got REALLY loud...at least from my seats. i think the new design will be a huge advantage. should be fun!

Ohio State has generally been projected in the middle of the pack of the Big Ten with the assumption they miss the NCAA Tournament (and got no AP Top 25 votes). Yet Holtmann is a good coach, so they are also the team that people expect could surprise and obviously jump teams like Minnesota that are not as well coached. Kaleb Wesson should be a tough player in the post and could cause some fits for UC. Don't recall them having a ton of shooting, just some guys. They have a grad transfer PG from Wake who was expected to start but came off the bench in the exhibition. Unproven bunch, so hopefully UC can just play its brand and out tough them, since it could be a lower scoring affair.

        Here's a good unbiased preview: https://www.insidethehall.com/2018/1...tate-buckeyes/

        Preseason Sagarin ratings: UC 11, OSU 43 // KenPom.com: UC 44, OSU 41

Good story from The Athletic ($) on how OSU/UC got scheduled. From OSU writer but neutral article and not shying away from why OSU didn't want to play UC before (just look at the headline). Thad Matta and Chris Holtmann clearly have differing philosophies. Not only did Thad not want to play UC, but I do not recall OSU ever playing in the big neutral site tournaments, which is something on the horizon for OSU in the next year or two. Nothing against Thad, just interesting.

            8. Ohio State at Cincinnati, Nov. 7, 6 p.m., ESPN2: This wouldn’t have happened under previous Buckeye staffs. Nope. This is all Chris Holtmann. And I love it. These two historic, tradition-rich programs should be playing a series every season. And the fact that Holtmann didn’t hesitate to open up the refurbished Bearcat Fifth-Third Arena on campus is a tremendous move. Why not? This is a quality game that isn’t going to do anything but help the program. The Bearcats are a tournament team, and the Buckeyes probably are not. So, the onus is on Cincinnati to come out and show it on day one.

Sorry, I have made a ton of posts. But Micah Potter, leading scorer from OSU's exhibition (13 points in 10 minutes) is transferring. 6'9 junior from Mentor, OH. This certainly doesn't hurt UC's chances...

I'd love to but the delay (TV either in front of or behind radio - I forget which) drives me nuts.

I believe we are planning to host several recruits on opening night. Anyone have any idea who might be attending? Should be an impressive evening for them and our first chance to see the impact of the new arena.

You got that right. His praise is usually reserved for B1G programs. In the recent past you could read between the lines and tell that he still regards us as "Thug U" (but he won't mention the scandals that have occurred at Maryland, Mich State, Penn State, IU, Minnesota, Rutgers, etc). Be interesting to see if he can bring himself to compliment the new Shoe.

Something from Mike Decourcy at the Sporting News on the 1962 Championship team that beat OSU.
