  • Robert Banks Jr. 2019 ENG CG 6'4 commit

Having to guess that Rob is a walk on? As Antonio mentioned, he's sharing a locker with David Sanford. Played for Thames Valley in the UK and played FIBA national team ball for England. He's listed on Eurobasket as being 21 years old. I'm not sure about the level of competition he played against but scoring was not a problem for him in the UK.

This is not the first time I've seen his name come up as I watched the video below a while back. Not sure why I didn't start a thread on him.

I've seen his birth year listed as 2000 in other places, making him 19 not 21 if true. Perhaps it's a metric system conversion thing haha.

An interesting player to take on as a walk on. I suppose technically if he doesn't play he could redshirt, and maybe there's a project-nature to this guy considering his background. Would like to hear the staff's thoughts on the walk ons (looked to me like Koz and Martin still have lockers too). Even with Martin gone for the year, 3 with a full 13 man roster is a lot.

This guy could be raw and not ready for college ball but he can shoot.

That stood out to me as well. I wondered if he was a non-traditional walk on in that there might be actual hope/expectation he could evolve into a contributor in a few seasons. Maybe like a football preferred walk on? I know that's often for specialist positions but this guy definitely does not strike me as the typical walk on regardless.

I think you're correct. Eurobasket is frequently wrong. I like 19 better anyway. Gives him time to get used to the competition level. Funny thing about this is I remember watching the video of him a long while back not like days or weeks ago. I think he may have been looked at by the previous staff specifically Greg Youncofski but I could be wrong.

That's a joke. I guess you do not recall the April fool's story SI put out back in the day about the mystery baseball player who could do thing not seen before throwing, etc.

I had forgotten about that. I knew I recognized the name from somewhere.
