5/7: "has committed to Wagner College in New York. Golden, who we rank as one of the Top-5 Seniors in the Memphis-area, took a visit there last weekend, and decided to go ahead and commit. (We thought Golden was vastly under-rated by many D-1 schools, so Wagner really got a steal!)" - Mid South Hoops
5/1: "It's hard to imagine Golden being ready to play the point next year. I would think he is an "insurance" recruit in case (Taron) Barker doesn't pan out." - Randy Shinkle, Forum contributor
4/30: "Golden, one of the top unsigned players in the Memphis Metro area, has scheduled a visit to Waggoner College in New York. Golden, who already has the grades and ACT, would indeed be a major asset to Waggoner, who could use his athleticism and versatility. He'll take his visit to New York this upcoming weekend." - MidSouth Hoops
4/19: "Ralfeal is an extremely athletic 6-3 shooting guard. He started at forward as a sophomore and they moved him to guard because he's obviously too short to be anything else. But he plays like he's
6-8 -- the kid can really dunk. Huggins was here on Friday to scout him out, and in fact Ralf said he was so tired from the workout (trying to impress)that he couldn't play right in the AAU game he had shortly afterward (they lost, but he led the team with 16 points).
He averaged 22.2 points per game this season, but his team was short on players and didn't get out of the Region tournament. Just getting out of Memphis is really hard, and his league was the toughest I've ever seen it this year. He went to the Class AA state tournament as a sophomore, though.
The down side is he is still learning to play 2-guard. He needs a little work on his handles. He really has improved his three-point shot tremendously, and would have probably been the best three man in most towns. But this year was a crazy year for three-point shooters in Memphis with every record broken and a couple of national ones, so he got a little overshadowed for his improvement." - Brian Douglas, GoMemphis.com & DPalermo
4/13: "a small sampling of college coaches, including Cincy's Bob HUGGINS and Mick CRONIN, Ole Miss's Wayne Brent and S.W. TN. C.C. Verties Sails, saw some of the area's best underclassmen go through their AAU practices. The Memphis YOMCA's 15-under and 16-under teams practiced and scrimmaged, mixing in stand-outs Derrick Byars from Ridgeway and Ralfael Golden from Trezevant. Cincy's staff were particularly interested to see Golden, the 6'4" Sr. who has already qualified. Golden showed alot of inside/out skills, and will definitely play on the D-1 level somewhere. A very pleasant surprise was watching top Jr. Derrick Byars operate on some of the underclassmen. The 6'6" Jr. showed an improved offensive aresenal, and seemed to enjoy himself up and down the floor. He's gotten even better, which is saying a lot considering he burst onto the scene during last summer's hoops circuit. Numerous High Major D-1's are showing interest, and Byars will be the most highly recruited player in the Jr. class." - Mid South Hoops
4/11: "Golden, an athletic 6-3 guard, said he is playing a waiting game with Cincinnati, Oklahoma and possibly Missouri. "I'm talking right now with Cincy and Oklahoma. I've got to wait and see what their situation is," Golden said. "Cincinnati (coaches are) going to come see me play Friday. They've told me if (guard) Kenny Satterfield goes pro they will have a scholarship for me. At Oklahoma, they are waiting to see what some player from Louisiana does, whether he chooses LSU or them." Golden said a number of other schools remain in the picture, too, but Cincinnati and Oklahoma are his most recent suitors. He said he has been interested in Cincinnati since last season, and that Oklahoma has appeal because Trezevant's Justin Williams has signed to play defensive back for the Sooners. - GoMemphis.com
3/17: "he's fully qualifed from an academic standpoint, with a 3.2 GPA and a 19 on the ACT. . . The guy can shoot - and hit - the "3" consistently. One thing that he can do much better ... is hit the boards and play strong straight-up "D." And he's got decent "hops" as well, and is one of those high-flyers around the rim." - MidSouth Hoops
2/27: 6th best player in the Memphis area, in his class. - MidSouth Hoops
