6/8: My sources tell me that Cincinnati is not actively recruiting White. -Mike Ryan
6/7/02: "Sources also tell RivalsHoops.com that White also took an unofficial visit to Cincinnati." - RivalsHoops (back to active)
6/4: "Initially, White had signed with DePaul last Fall. But after the coaching change at DePaul, White asked for his release. It was granted by the new staff at DePaul." - RivalHoops
7/19/01: "White told the Insiders Report that he has been offered scholarships by Illinois, DePaul, Marquette and St. Louis. His current top three is Illinois, DePaul and St. Louis. In addition to the above four programs, White also likes UCLA and Michigan State, though as of late last week, neither program had offered him a scholarship." - Rivals Hoops (moved to inactive)
7/3: "White has a 23 ACT, but...he is not currently "FULLY" qualified as reported by others on the net, as he still needs to get the core required GPA. He should with little problem....
White's priority schools include De Paul, Michigan, Missouri, Seton hall, USC, Marquette, Purdue, Wyoming, Illinois State, and Bradley." - Bullseye, All Star Report (3 to 2)
6/18: "White, a 6-8 power forward at Whitney Young, will sign with DePaul. But UCLA is making a late sales pitch. White had what was described as "an off weekend" at Gibbons' Tourn of Champions. "He didn't rebound well and limited himself to standing on the low blocks and looking for the ball. A turnaround five-footer is the bulk of his post-up moves," the scouting report said." - Chicago Sun Times & the Schmidt Bro's from All Star Report
5/30: Jr Marcus White from Chicago (Whitney Young) IL likes DePaul, Wyoming, Illinois, Marquette, Connecticut, and UCLA." - HoopScoop
5/28: "Someone is going to have a lot of fun turning White into a solid college player. Here’s the deal: he has to catch the ball on the low blocks to be effective. Move him off the blocks and you take him out of his comfort zone. Close to the basket, he has a quick spin move and is a reliable scorer. He’s aggressive and plays hard as confirmed by the blisters he developed on three of his shooting hand fingers from dunking." - BlueChip Hoops
5/15: "After showing up late due to a Friday evening prom, White proceeded to help the Illinois Gold make the Elite 8 with only 8 players, and he proved to be one of the very best power players in the tournament. Not too many players play harder from start to finish than White does, and he is one of the best rebounders in the nation. He is super quick off his feet with great rebounding instincts, and he gets great position. White runs the floor like a guard, and he is starting to finish in transition much more consistently. His game away from the hoop still needs polish, but his skills in the post are super. He catches everything thrown to him, and he has a super quick drop step move. We rate him s the #3 prospect in Illinois' loaded junior class and a borderline Top 50 national prospect. DePaul, Marquette, Missouri, Purdue, Seton Hall, Michigan, CINCINNATI, and USC are all in, as are local schools Illinois State and Bradley." - BobGibbons.net
5/10/01: 26th best junior in the USA. - School Sports.com
5/9: #44 Junior. "White is worker. He' loves to get after it on the glass and his consistent play around the cup is a great strength." - Sporting News
3/31: Listed as the twentieth best player in the country, Class 2002. - MidWest Hoops
3/17: "One day last week, Cronin answered a 4:30am wakeup call in Chicago..." is the quote from the Cin Enq this morning. If Cronin was in Chicago this (in my opinion) points him towards either Chris Hunter of Gary, IN or Sean Dockery and Marcus White of Chicago. - Mike Ryan
2/20: "we think that if (Michigan's) Coach Ellerbe is let go, there is little chance that Michigan gets Marcus White unless Terrance Green, Scott Trost, or a coach from another program recruiting White is hired" - Bullseye, AllStar Report
2/19: "If a player has the desire to win, he will win because he will put forth his maximum effort in practice and in games. Finding high school players who fit this description is not an easy task, however Illinois junior Marcus White is one of them. Since returning to the Whitney Young lineup, the 6-8, 200 lb., power forward has proven that he is not only one of the elite junior prospects in Illinois, but also one of the nation's finest. In fact, White has been the driving force behind Whitney Young's resurgence.
White suffered a broken hand in a practice just prior to Thanksgiving and was out of action until mid-January. Whitney Young was only 3-9 and on the verge of possibly finishing last in the Chicago Public League's Red-West section, one of the most competitive high school basketball conferences in the country. In his season debut, White scored game-high 22 points to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds, as Young defeated Farragut. With White in the lineup, the Dolphins have become rejuvenated, winning 10 games in a row prior to their matchup against Thornwood this past Saturday night. Even though Young fell short against Thornwood, losing 52-47, White impressed many in attendance with his athleticism and power game around the basket. He is consistently one of the hardest workers when he is on the floor, and he isn't afraid to bang inside for a rebound, take a charge, or dive on the floor for a loose ball. His mid-range game also continues to improve.
College coaches, such as those from DePaul, Michigan, Illinois, USC, Marquette, Missouri, Bradley, CINCINNATI, and Illinois State have shown early interest in Marcus. Michigan's Brian Ellerbe witnessed his performance against Thornwood and has made White one of the Wolverine's top recruiting priorities for next season. White has averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game since his return from injury. He will compete this summer for Stan White's Illinois Gold AAU program, and is likely to attend the Nike All-America Camp this July." - AllStar Report

2/19/01: "You Cincy fans may be interested to know that Huggs is getting back in the mix in Chicago, as Cincy is recruiting 6'8 junior Marcus White from Chicago Whitney Young." - Bullseye, AllStar Report
2/17: faced Eddy Curry and Thornwood HS. Marcus White plays center for highly rated Whitney Young, altho he did not always guard Curry. Curry was held to eight points, including one in the second half. Young lost to Thornwood 52-47.
"The return (a few games ago) of junior center Marcus White helped the Dolphins (13-10) run off a 10-game winning streak in the rugged Public League Red West." - Chicago Sun Times
2/17: "was extremely aggressive on the boards and in the low post." - AllStar Report
2/17: "The highlight-film move of the first half was provided by Young center Marcus White, who caught a perfect lob pass from Chris Hill (13 points) and powered down a two-hand dunk. Curry had seven points and four rebounds in the first half, being guarded alternately by 6-foot-8-inch Josh Williams and 6-8 Brandon Allen with help from the 6-8 White. "When I go against a big name, I try to bring a big game," said White, who had 10 points and is Curry's teammate on a summer AAU team called the Illinois Gold." - Chic Tribune
1/21/01: Named best player in the Chicago area in his class. - Bardo basketball
5/3/00: "...the most promising is the youngest, 6-7 sophomore power forward Marcus White, an outstanding leaper who scored 13 points versus Michigan" - Brick O, Sporting News
1/15/00: "- A lot of people think that Chicago (Whitney Young) IL, whose top four players are all underclassmen, might be the best high school team in the nation next year. However, they sure didn't impress anybody at Saturday at National Hoops Classic on Saturday in Columbus, OH, as they lost in overtime to Westerville (North) OH, 73-65. The best prospect in the game was Whitney Young's 6'7 Soph Marcus White, who had 13 points and six rebounds." - HoopScoop
