4/21: "The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team got its second commitment of the Steve Lappas era from Gabriel Lee, a 6-foot-9 big man from Northfield Mount Hermon School. Lee is recovering from a severely separated shoulder and will redshirt next year. Because of the injury, NMH coach Bill Batty, who confirmed that Lee is UMass-bound, wasn't sure on Friday about Lee's scholarship status. The Minuteman coaching staff can't comment on any recruits until all paperwork is signed." - Gazette.net

2/17: Has not played since mid January. The school web site mentions the "loss of Gabriel Lee", but does not mention why.

1/11/2001: "Big forward Gabriel Lee was a good player at Camilla (GA) Mitchell-Baker. However, he wasn't able to qualify coming out of high school and was forced to spend a year at a prep school. He selected Northfield (MA) Mount Hermon. "He's the best player I ever had," Mount Hermon head coach Bill Batty said. "He just doesn't have a [SAT] score yet." Batty said Georgia, Cincinnati and Xavier (offered) have shown a lot of interest. Batty said it was Georgia head coach Jim Harrick who called him and first made the coach aware of Lee's abilities. Lee's former high school coach, Rufus McDuffie, knows a little about the situation as well. "He hasn't narrowed it down or anything. He's trying to get qualified." "He's not obligated to anyone," McDuffie said." - Rivals100 Hoops

1/04/2000: "Gabriel Lee, a 6-8, 200-pound senior forward from Mitchell-Baker HS in Georgia, looks like he may have to go the JUCO route due to his academic situation. Lee has heard from Hutchinson CC in Kansas, all of the Florida JUCOs, as well as Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. Lee's high school team has not lost in 10 contests and Gabriel is averaging 23 points a game. Lee said he is just going to concentrate on trying to straighten out his academic situation and then worry about his recruiting process later. However, it appears, at this time, that Lee is going to have to go the JUCO route." - Insiders Report

12/21/00: "The decision of backup shooting guard Ronald Blackshear to leave Temple might have some long-lasting effects. That's because it probably cripples Temple's chances of landing 6-9 power forward Gabriel Lee during the spring signing period. Lee, a former high school teammate of Temple guard Ronald Blackshear, is currently enrolled at Northfield Mount Hermon School, a prep school located in Massachusetts. Lee and Blackshear were teammates at Mitchell-Baker High School in Camilla, Ga., in 1997-98, that being the first of three straight years in which Coach Rufus McDuffie's squad won the Georgia Class AAA State Championship. Lee was a part of all three title teams, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game as the starting center last season. Lee is currently being recruited by Temple, Georgia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Rhode Island, but it's hard to imagine his old buddy Blackshear having nice things to say about his time at Temple." - ESPN

Fall 00: "A 6'9" center from Mitchell Baker HS in Georgia. His team won three straight state championships. Voted best player in state at the AA level while averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists per game. A very athletic and talented big man who will be one of the keys to NMH's success this year." - NMH HS basketball site.

7/22/99: "Gabriel Lee, a 6-9 power forward from Mitchell Baker H.S. in Camilla, GA, averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds as a junior. He is currently undecided as to which schools he is interested in, but he plans to sign in the fall. Lee is also a member of the Atlanta Celtics I AAU team." - FastBreak
