Hatten will visit Houston from Apr. 6-8, Iowa State from Apr. 13-15 and DePaul from Apr. 20-22. The above three programs and St. John's are the only schools under consideration, Gillespie said." - JucoJunction

1/11/01: "Although rumors have swirled that Tallahassee CC wing guard Marcus Hatten was on the verge of committing to St. John's, Eagles Head Coach Mike Gillespie informs JUCO Junction that it has not happened yet. However, Hatten will soon take a trip to the Jamaica, N.Y. school. Details in the story below.
Marcus Hatten, a dynamic 6-2, 170 pound off guard from Tallahassee C.C. in Tallahassee, Fla., has scheduled an official visit to St. John's for January 19-20.
TCC Head Coach Mike Gillespie informed JUCO Junction that Red Storm Head Coach Mike Jarvis recently called the school to finalize the details of the trip.
Gillespie said that Hatten will leave for St. John's on Friday, Jan. 19, and then take in the Villanova/Red Storm game at Madison Square Garden on the 20th. He will then return to Florida on Sunday the 21st.
In addition to St. John's, Gillespie said that Minnesota, Iowa State, Cincinnati, DePaul, Memphis and Florida State are still in the mix for Hatten's services this winter.
Former Tallhassee All-American Marvis "Bootsy" Thornton signed with St. John's three years ago, and capped a solid two-year career with the Red Storm last March. Like Hatten, Thornton is also a Baltimore native.
However, Gillespie was not so certain if St. John's was the right fit for his current star guard.
"Marcus has a serious interest in St. John's, but our concern, both mine and Marcus', is the youth of the backcourt at St. John's," Gillespie said. "Where is he going to fit in there?"
Freshmen guards Willie Shaw and Omar Cook have logged the lion's share of minutes in the Red Storm backcourt this season.
The Minnesota staff attended Hatten's game last night (Jan. 10) against Gulf Coast C.C. Marcus scored a game high 26 points in an 88-82 Tallhassee victory that kept the Eagles undefeated (19-0) on the season.
DePaul Head Coach Pat Kennedy is scheduled to be in Tallhassee today (Jan. 11) to evaluate Hatten, while Gillespie is expecting Cincinnati Asst. Coach Mick Cronin to come into town on Wed., Jan. 17.
Neither Florida State nor DePaul currently have a scholarship to offer Hatten, but those programs have remained involved to varying degrees, as have Iowa State and Cincinnati.
"Iowa State and Cincinnati are in a little bit of a waiting mode," Gillespie said. "And Marcus is going to sign late, so I think both schools could make a late push depending on what happens to their seasons down the stretch. And that's about as far West as Marcus is going to go, too."
Cincinnati has been especially patient in its recruitment of Hatten due to the uncertain status of sophomore point guard Kenny Satterfield.
Satterfield seriously mulled a jump to the pros last spring, and speculation is that if he has an excellent sophomore campaign, that he could leave the Conference USA school and make himself eligible for the June NBA Draft. Gillespie said that Hatten is looking for a situation where he can get at least 30 minutes a game and 15 shot attempts per contest." - Juco Junction
1/11/01: Antwan Jones, Hatten's former teammate at Tallahassee, has not been seen in three days. Could this sour Cincinnati on another player from the same school ?
12/14: "Hatten took one early visit to South Florida, but opted to sign in the spring. According to Coach Gillespie, many other programs are now trying to get involved with the dynamic offensive guard from Baltimore, Md. Programs now in the mix with Hatten include DePaul, St. John's, Memphis and Minnesota in addition to South Florida. Hatten is expected to graduate in the summer." - Juco Junction
11/2: "the talented 6-2, 165 pound combo guard from Tallahassee C.C. in Tallahassee, Fla., did not take his second official visit to St. John's this past weekend. TCC Head Coach Mike Gillespie informed JUCO Junction that Hatten has opted to sign late. As a result, he will probably not visit St. John's until the Christmas break or after the basketball season. "It was a mutual decision to cancel the visit," Gillespie said. "He wanted to sign late, so both parties agreed to wait until later, possibly Christmas time or when the season is over." In addition to St. John's, DePaul called Gillespie recently and has decided to get back in the mix with Hatten. Hatten took one official visit this fall, to South Florida in early October. The Bulls' chances for Hatten's services appear to have lessened with Marcus' recent decision to sign late. "Their ability to recruit him during the season is going to be very very limited because they don't have many contacts left with him," Gillespie said. "Marcus had a nice visit there, but when he came back, we talked, and he said he'd rather sign late." Gillespie said that Cincinnati is still hanging around with Hatten in the event that Bearcat sophomore guard Kenny Satterfield declares for the NBA Draft this spring." - JUCO Junction
10/00: "Hatten...is expected to move to the point after averaging 16 points/6 rebounds/3 assists last year." Big Apple Sports
10/12: "has sliced his list to two schools this fall. TCC Head Coach Mike Gillespie told JUCO Junction that Hatten has canceled a visit to DePaul this month, meaning that he is down to South Florida and St. John's if Marcus signs early." - Juco Junction
10/6: visited S. Florida
8/14: "has several high major programs eyeing him heading into his sophomore campaign at TCC. Hatten told JUCO Junction that Georgia Tech, South Florida, DePaul, St. John's, Texas Christian, Iowa State and Florida State have all been in to see him this summer. He is also looking at West Virginia, but said he did not recall the Mountaineer staff coming to see him work out this summer." - Juco Junction
5/28: signed with Tallahassee CC
5/26: "is thinking about going to Tallahassee CC in FL. He averaged 25 points a game. His team finished 18-6. Hatter recently scored a 770 on the SAT. He had in home visits with American, VCU, Richmond, and Tennessee State. He was also being recruited by Virginia Tech, Daytona CC, Hutchinson CC, Coppin State, Loyola of Maryland, Temple, and Allegheny CC of Maryland. He has officially visited Florida A&M. He had seen some interest last month by Xavier, Towson State, and Sacred Heart." - Juco Junction
2/14/00: "Hatten, from Mervo HS/Baltimore, MD, plays both ends of the court, he's exceptionally good off the dribble, slashing to the basket. Hatten, a good athlete who competes hard, defends and has excellent passing skills. He's averaging 16 ppg, 6 rpg, 4 apg and 5 steals (2nd in the state). Hatten has a high game of 36 points (Okaloosa-Walton)."
