VERBAL TO KANSAS
11/6: "The recruitment of Keith Langford ended Monday night. The star shooting guard from Texas decided to attend Kansas. "I talked to Kansas coach Roy Williams around 10 p.m.," Langford said. "He was pretty excited. He was telling me that we were going to win a lot of ball games here. He's looking forward to it." Langford was also impressed with his visit to Kansas. "It's not like anything I've ever experienced," Langford said. "It's like jumping in there. The crowd started shouting my name. "I took real well to the players and the atmosphere there. And the opportunity academically, not just basketball wise was important." Langford also believes that he has a chance to start at one of the perimeter spots. "I think that third wing spot is up for grabs, whoever earns it will get it," Langford said. After making an early commitment to Mississippi over the summer, Langford recently reneged on the commitment. "I had always liked Kansas," Langford said. "I just never thought I'd get recruited by them. When i committed to Mississippi, that lessoned the chances. But after I opened up my recruitment, they started recruiting me hard ever since." He picked Kansas over Cincinnati and Oklahoma. He'll have a formal announcement on Wednesday at school said North Crowley coach Tom Brakel." - FoxSports

11/6: "He praised his visit to Cincinnati, making this a difficult decision. He praised Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins and the visit when we spoke to Langford (before his Kansas visit)." - Insiders Report

11/3: "will be on (the Kansas) campus today through early Sunday on an official campus recruiting visit. Langford visited Cincinnati last week and has also made an official visit to Oklahoma. Crowley is a suburb of Fort Worth. Texans already on KU's roster include senior Luke Axtell of Austin, plus freshmen Bryant Nash (6-6, Carollton) and Mario Kinsey (6-2, Waco). Langford, who orally committed to the University of Mississippi last May, says KU is his leader right now. "If it's everything I expect it to be and I think it will be, I'll most likely end up there," Langford said Thursday. "My mom likes it, my family all likes it and that's very important to me." Langford averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals a game last year. The sweet-shooting left-hander hit 46 percent of his three-point tries. Langford's mom, Charlene Taylor, said her son has a 3.3 grade point average and has qualified for a scholarship. Both his mother and father played basketball at UT-Arlington. Langford's brother, Kevin, is a 6-foot-7 high school freshman. Crowley and several relatives will attend Saturday's KU-Emporia State exhibition game set for 8:05 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse." - www.KUSports.com

11/2: "As of 7:30 this morning, Keith was still open and asked me if I was going to visit Cincinnati on Monday or Tuesday. I promised to visit every school at least once on his wishes. Honestly, I think Keith is still undecided (not saying that he doesn't have a leader) and he shifts directions from day-to-day. In this case I think the coach with that last weighted impression (visit, phone call, fedex, etc.) might win out. We still plan to have a decision by Nov 8th." - Keith Langford's mother - FastBreak

11/2: "is leaning heavily toward Kansas right now. Tomorrow, he will get on the school's private jet and head north for his official visit to Lawrence. Langford had originally committed to the University of Mississippi in June, but re-opened his recruitment when Kansas and Oklahoma showed interest. Cincinnati joined the hunt soon afterwards. He visited the Cincinnati campus last week and had a great time, but came away thinking that the Jayhawks still had the edge. In fact, unless something goes terribly wrong this weekend, he will sign with Kansas on November 8. Langford's parents are leaving in the early morning on Friday for the University of Kansas, but Keith will not be with them. Instead, he will be riding in style on the school's private jet at 2 p.m. This weekend, he is planning to watch an exhibition game and spend a lot of time with the coaches and players." - FastBreak

10/27: "I spoke with Keith twice yesterday and everything is going fine. His host is Field Williams, a freshman from Houston, TX. Field was Mr. Basketball in Texas last year. I have spoken with Coach Huggins about 3 or 4 times but never face-to-face. I have seen him at numerous Team Texas games this past summer on the AAU circuit. Keith is of course looking forward to the basketball game tonight between the NJ Nets and Cleveland Cavs. Did anyone out there know that Kenyon played AAU basketball for Team Texas/Wes Grandstaff when he was in the 9th grade?" - Keith Langford's Mom

10/26: "I just now read that (Enquirer) article.... My EXACT words were (and I remember them vividly because I really try to clarify things when speaking with journalists and besides he was feeding his baby while he was talking to me), "...having already visited OU and the other schools, he is down to Cincy this week and Kansas next week. I have an idea of what Keith will do, but after renouncing his commitment to Ole Miss, I wouldn't take my intuition to the bank!"
- Keith Langford's Mom

10/26: "Everybody jumped in late with Langford. He was committed to Mississippi for a long time but has just recently dropped them. Reportedly his mother said he will choose between UC and Kansas, whom he visits next weekend. He has already taken 3 of his 5 official visits allowed, to Mississippi, Oklahoma and (as I recall) Baylor. With Kenyon here this weekend to meet him, and with Maxiell pushing UC, it would appear Huggins has an excellent chance to sign him in 2 weeks. Similar to UC, Kansas recently lost out on their top wing guard prospect (Josh Childress) and may give UC a real run for Langford." - Randy '78

10/26: "will begin an official recruiting visit to UC today, his mother said Wednesday. Charlene Taylor said her son already has visited Mississippi - to which he committed last June but recently changed his mind - Baylor and Oklahoma. He is scheduled to visit Kansas the weekend of Nov.4, and Taylor said Langford will choose between the Bearcats and Jayhawks. Langford averaged 19 points and nine rebounds as a junior. He played on a traveling team last summer with Jason Maxiell from Carrollton, Texas. Maxiell orally committed to attend Cincinnati earlier this month. “He's a solid high-major prospect,” said Dave Telep of Rivals100Hoops.com. “He's a shooter, just a solid perimeter player.” Telep said he would rate Langford around 150. Bob Gibbons of All Star Sports said Langford is one of the top 10 shooting guards in the senior class. “He'd be an excellent "get' if they can pick him up,” Gibbons said. “He's very athletic, and he can shoot the 3.” - CincyPost

10/25: "it hasn't taken Cincinnati long to find a replacement in their scheme of things for 6'4 Kelvin Torbert, who picked Michigan State earlier today. As a matter of fact, our Texas Editor Wes Grandstaff tells us that 6'4 Keith Langford from North Crowley (H.S.) TX, who ranks #76 nationally by the HOOP SCOOP, will be making an official visit to Cincinnati tomorrow. Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Baylor are also still in the hunt for Langford, but the smart money is on Kansas or Cincinnati. Remember, Langford's teammate on the Team Texas AAU Club team - 6'7 Jason Maxiell from Carrollton (Newman Smith) TX - committed to the Bearcats several weeks ago and, well, Kansas is Kansas." - HoopScoop

10/25: "He is top 100 and underrated. Can shoot the ball real good. Cincinnati had been involved previously, last summer. They picked it up over the past couple of weeks." - Insiders Report

10/25: "He's in our top 60. He played well at the Spiece tournament in May at Purdue, and had a good summer playing for Team Texas. He has committed to Mississippi, but word on the streets is that he has reneged from that. He obviously has, if he's visiting Cincy! Langford is a great athlete, solid long-range shooter (lefty) and has excellent transition ability, both offensively and defensively." - The Schmidt Bro's, AllStar Report

10/25: "Keith Langford, a 6-4, 190 pound off guard/swingman from North Crowley H.S. in Crowley, Tex., is going to visit Cincinnati tomorrow, according to Langford's family. Langford's family told us CINCINNATI HAS OFFERED. He is expected back on Saturday morning from his visit. Langford's family told us that one of the reasons why Langford is considering Cincinnati is because of Jason Maxiell, a player who is already committed to Bob Huggins' program. Maxiell and Langford played together this summer. Langford's family also told us that he will definitely visit Kansas on November 3rd. Langford oficially visited Oklahoma. Langford averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals per game this season as a junior at North Crowley H.S. He said he has a 3.17 GPA and scored a 920 on the SAT, marks which would make him a qualifier under current NCAA standards. Langford at times can be a prolific marksman from beyond the three point arc, yet his body is solid enough to take it strong to the basket and finish. - Insiders Report

10/23: "said he is looking forward to taking a visit to Kansas for the weekend of November 3rd. Langford has become important for the Jayhawks now that Josh Childress has committed to Stanford." - InsidersReport

10/00: Notes from Carl:
Originally committed to Mississippi-later reneged.

A variety of rankings-the lowest being Prepstars, which has him listed at #144 (#33 shooting guard)

ESPN's site, on the other hand, lists him at #42 overall regardless of position.

FansOnly's, Julius Hodge ranks him as one of the "Super 100 Prospects".

In a brief look, he appears to be a few notches below Torbert, but a viable alternative.

Hodge actually had Cincinnati listed as a school for this kid, which makes me wonder how long Hugs has eyed this kid as a "just in case" for Torbert. Those people out there who thought Hugs was putting all of his eggs in the Torbert basket simply don't know the man. My guess is that Langford, thanks to Hugs and the Maxiell ties, will committ to UC by Monday at the latest.

10/21: "a 6-4, 190 pound off guard/swingman from North Crowley H.S. in Crowley, Tex informed Mississippi he is no longer interested in them. His family confirmed that both Oklahoma and Kansas have expressed interest in her son. Oklahoma has a scholarship on the table for Keith, while Kansas is still in the process of evaluating its position with regard to Langford." - InsidersReport

9/27: "appears to have re-opened his recruitment. Langford committed to Mississippi in June. However, Kansas and Oklahoma have since gotten involved and forced him to reconsider his pact with the Rebels. Langford will visit Oklahoma within the next two weeks and will likely trip to Kansas as well. - Rivals100Hoops

8/14: "is going to make his official visit to Mississippi the weekend of Sept 2. Langford is firm in his commitment to Mississippi. He did take an unofficial visit to Oklahoma early in the summer, but says that the visit only confirmed that he wanted to go to school in Oxford." - Rivals100Hoops

7/29/00: "The first player to go back on his word this year appears to be 6'4 Jr Keith Langford from North Crowley (H.S.) TX, who committed to Ole Miss last week. However, now he's saying that he didn't verbally commit to the Rebels, even though we had two excellent sources who at the time say he did." - HoopScoop

6/21: "told us today that he has committed to Mississippi. He said he was impressed with his recent visit and will sign a letter of intent in November." - Insiders Report

5/12/00: "a WG with Team Texas Red, is receiving interest from Mississippi, Texas Christian, Baylor and Miami-FL. He would like to make an early decision, but has not selected a school at this point. He averaged 19 points a game for North Crowley High last season." - Rivals100Hoops

Notes from Keith's mom/FastBreak:
- Cincinnati first contacted him in July.
- "Keith will visiting Kansas the weekend of November 3rd. I am quite sure that he will be on a natural 'high' immediately following and I think THIS time I will advise him to come down from that 'high' before making a decision. A decision sure to be made known to the coaching staffs before November 8 but not necessarily public until then."
