11/17/04: "Garden City forward B.J. Walker knows that he, freshman center Julius Lamptey and sophomore forward Torre Johnson give the Broncbusters a decided advantage in the paint on any given night. In the second half Tuesday, the advantage showed.
Walker scored a team-high 25 points, and Johnson added 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as the Busters rallied from a slow first half to pull away from Cowley 87-74. "We weren't really running through our offense very well, and we had to pick it up on defense," Walker said of the early struggles. "Offensively, me, Torre and Julius on the front line, there's not too many teams out there that can match up with us, so we need to start taking advantage of that."
Walker scored 17 points in the second half alone, seven from the free-throw line, as Garden City (4-1) led by as many as 17 points. (snipped) Walker took a majority of the team's free throws in the second half, however, finishing 9-of-15 from the line." - Garden City Telegram
11/04/04: "B. J. Walker, a 6-foot-9 forward from Garden City (KS) CC, scored 19 points, including 15 points in the second half as he led the Broncbusters to a season-opening 78-70 victory on the road against Lamar Community College (0-2). . . . .he played in JC Challenge in Indianapolis in July, where he caught the eye of several high Division I coaches." - CollegeBasketballNews.com
10/28/04: 6-foot-9, 245-pound B.J. Walker came to Garden City from the University of Buffalo. Walker was injured last year and received a medical redshirt, then transferred to Garden City. "BJ's mature, physical, not a bad athlete, but not a great one," Swanson said. "He's very skilled, can score, can score on the block, can step out shoot jump shots, play the four or the five."
South Florida, Miami, Texas A&M, UAB and Cincinnati are the schools that Swanson said have been in to see Walker so far. However, the coach doesn't see Walker signing early with anyone. "I don't think he will just because he hasn't taken any visits," Swanson said. “It would be tough. We have a couple open weekends that we could squeeze a couple in. B.J. is mature enough that if he wanted to do it, I would let him, but I don't think he will." - JucoJunction and Oleski at BearcatsDen.
09/21/04: Spoke to Coach Swanson at Garden City Community College. He stated that BJ Walker is now at GCCC after fighting thru injuries last season at the Univ of Buffalo. He verified that the Bearcats has checked on him and will follow his progress. Walker originally attended HS at Mt Healthy in Cincinnati. (Changed height from 6-8 to 6-9 and grad date from 2002 to 2005) - Mike Ryan
01/06/04: "Buffalo may see sophomore forward B.J. Walker (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Healthy) back on the floor. He has practiced on both Monday and Tuesday and might see some playing time. After averaging 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in the first three games of the season, Walker has not played since because of a back injury." - Univ of Buffalo website
5/2/01: named to the All Tournament Team (20 total players) at Jerry Watson's All-Ohio Great Eight Tourney. - MidWest Hoops
3/26: Named to the Boys All-Southwest basketball tea, special mention. - Cincinnati Enq
2/20/01: "B.J. Walker has had a superb year despite being on a team that shoots too many jump shots. He is the best big man in the junior class (in the Cincinnati area). He average 13 points and 12 rebounds meeting my double doubl requirements that big men must have. Walker can face the basket, handle with either hand and is a force to be reckoned with. When he learns to play with intensity no matter the opponent and to not let coach get in his head, he will battle for the number #1 spot. He is a terrific talent." - Ozie Davis III, Ohio Preps
10/14/00: Attended Midnight Madness.
