DeAngelo Collins

Class of 2002
Position: C
School: Tustin
City: Los Angeles, CA, CA
Height: 6-10
Interest: 1

8/8/01: "we'd also be very surprised if 6'9 DeAngelo Collins from Inglewood (HS) CA plays a minute of college basketball. Remember, Collins failed to play at any of the major events this summer after he played so well as the adidas ABCD Camp (he finished ranked #8 in camp and #3 among centers), because he didn't want to hurt the value of his stock. And with Collins' troubled past and academic question marks, he too is probably more suited to go straight to the league..." - HoopScoop

7/9/01: "If my people tell me that I'm definitely a top 10 pick, that'll turn my head," said DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif. "I'm open to the thought of playing in the NBA." Collins, a sleek 6-9 power forward, is undecided on school but will consider those that like to "run and gun and can feed plenty of lobs." - USA Today

5/10/01: 16th best junior in the USA. - School Sports.com

5/9: #30 Junior. "Potential-laden recruit is a huge presence as a shot blocker and truly the sky is the limit. He'll need to prove that he can perform consistently." - Sporting News

1/15: "(At the California MLK Classic) Leading the way for Inglewood was the inside-outside duo of 6-foot-9 junior DeAngelo Collins and unsigned senior shooting guard Anthony Davis. Collins' work on the boards ripped the Redondo Union defense, as he finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds in 25 minutes of action." - FoxSports

1/3/01: Listed as the 3rd best PF in the USA, in the 2002 class. - Ohio Preps

11/00: the second best player in Calif in his class. - HoopScoop

10/16: 9th best player in his class - Steve Wacaser, Sporting News

9/27: "California stud is strong and aggressive, but sways to the perimeter a little too much for our liking. Great body, good shot-blocker." - High major Hoops

9/11: "Looking to be in better condition, Collins had a great weekend, including a 37-point effort. He still has areas needing work, but has come a long way in the last year." - FoxSports coverage of the 2000 Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic

8/4: "Collins is a true low post beast, with great strength combined with some very solid low post moves and decent footwork. He is very physical and aggressive and will use elbows to intimidate people. In any event, he was the dominant force for the Paladins this weekend and only had trouble against the tall Rockfish team. Alex Graham, who towers over everyone at 7-0+, pinned D'Angelo on his hip twice in a row and just laid it in over him and either blocked or altered 5 of D'Angelo's shots on 5 successive trips down the floor, so D'Angelo will have to learn to move outside and diversify his offensive game to match up with the bigger college players. But he is clearly a High D 1 prospect." - PacWest Hoops

7/19: "Rebel Net sat down with a potential star of the future, 6-10, 230 pound DeAngelo Collins of Los Angeles, California. Collins lead the LA Paladins to three wins this week at the Adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas. DeAngelo Collins was a teammate of Rebel recruit Doug Thomas during the Las Vegas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas earlier this week. DeAngelo demonstrated an offensively raw, but sometimes dominant, style of play during the tournament. The 6-10, 230 pound junior center clogged up the middle defensively and snatched every rebound in the vicinity. DeAngelo told Rebel Net that in the early stages, his top 5 schools are Cincinnati, North Carolina, UCLA, Michigan, and Michigan State, followed by UNLV. Collins says that once he hits his senior year, he will end the recruiting process by signing early." - unlv.rivals

7/11: "I asked DeAngelo Collins, "What is your list of schools?". He told me, "I'm going to the league, dawg...(15 seconds elapsed)...but I like Cincy". DeAngelo is good, but he ain't ready." - PrepHoops.com

11/99: "Last year, second year coach Rob Alexander created more than a little controversy when both of these (players) showed up, and then just as quickly left...Collins for Tustin, where he did well on the court, but led a troubled and turbulent life off the court. He's now enrolled at Inglewood after being expelled from Tustin for fighting with another student, and that fight itself is the subject of both a civil lawsuit and it might result in more serious consequences for the young Collins as well." - Socal Hoops

7/99: "DeAngelo Collins, a 6'7, 224-pound sophomore-to-be post player out of Inglewood, CA, showed great potential in the post this week. Collins, a solidly built young man, looks like he'll fully develop into a solid four, but right now he also spends time developing perimeter where he's shown some ability to handle the ball and shoots it fairly well from foul line extended. Collins also uses his solid frame to defend in the post and rebound on the defensive end. Collins didn't seem real comfortable with his back to the basket, but facing the hoop he showed a quick release and ferocious dunking ability. When it comes time for Collins to chose a school, I'm sure a number of Pacific-10 schools will be in the mix." - Nicholas Scouting/SportsAmerica
