A real surprise on the Atlanta Celtics squad was 7-foot post man Dennis Harris who proved he can post and finish or run court in transition. He's a little raw around the edges, but is seven feet and can really run the court.

03/31/07: visited campus.

03/15/07: Listed as 'honorable mention' in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's All Area Team.

The scramble to secure the services of top high school basketball players has become every bit as furious as the chase for football players. Count Mundy's Mill 6-foot-9 junior forward Dennis Harris among the list of players coveted by college recruiters.

Harris already has seven scholarship offers —- Appalachian State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Tennessee Tech, Toledo, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky. Recently, he spoke with staff writer Seth Coleman about the recruiting process and the season he's having.

> On the first offer he received, from Appalachian State: "I was playing in an AAU tournament at Georgia State, and after one of the games my AAU coach came and told me that they were going to offer me a scholarship. A few minutes later the coach came over and made the offer. He told me that he likes my game and the fact that I'm a hard worker. I was excited."

> On the temptation to sign early: "I guess there is a chance that a team could take their offer away, but I try not to worry about that. I just go out and keep working hard, keep trying to get better. The scholarship offers motivate me because I want to get even more offers."

> On whom he'd like to get a call from: "Xavier and Georgia have started to call me now. That's pretty cool. I've always wanted to play for UCLA, but I haven't heard from them. And everyone would love to play for Duke or North Carolina. But even if none of those schools don't recruit me, I'll be happy deciding between the schools that have. All of them are good schools."

> On his development as a player: "I'm always motivated to work hard because a lot of people told me I wouldn't be a great player. I grew 5 inches between the fifth and sixth grade and was 6 feet tall in sixth grade. In the seventh and eighth grade, even though I was 6 foot 4, I still played behind a couple of guys. I told myself that I was going to work so hard on my game that I wouldn't sit behind anyone in high school."
