07/15/07: "Fortson obviously has been doing something right on the court as he has the likes of Kentucky, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Kansas, Florida State, Missouri, and Texas on his current list of suitors. He admits that he will want to play in a system that fits his up-tempo style of play. "I want to go to a school that likes to get up and down the court, and also plays pressure defense a lot." he said. "I also want to have a chance to go in and play as a true freshman, as much as I can, and help the team win." - HoopMasters.com

"We also think it's interesting to point out that (our Alabama editor, Mark) Komara tells us that Fortson will be the best 5th Year Player in the country next year and wants to go on record saying that Fortson is even better than 6'1 Jr Brandon Jennings from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA. "And that's no disrespect to Brandon Jennings," says Komara. "I just think Fortson is that good. You'll get a chance to see soon enough." - Hoop Scoop Online

04/11/07: Courtney Fortson of Jeff Davis-Montgomery, recently named Mr. Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, is unsigned and doesn't plan to announce his decision any time soon.

Jeff Davis coach Terry Posey said Fortson is considering attending a prep school, possibly Patterson Preparatory in Lenoir, N.C., since he may not qualify academically.

Patterson assistant coach Ryan Freeberg said he has spoken with Fortson but declined to comment on whether Fortson would be playing for Patterson. "In this business of prep schools, I've learned not to do that," he said.

Fortson told The Birmingham News he is waiting on his ACT test scores before making his decision. But if he doesn't qualify to sign with a Division I team, he said he is considering attending Patterson. "It depends on what I do in school this year and how it shakes out," Fortson said. "It's looking real good right now. I'm waiting on my ACT scores to come back." Minnesota, Alabama, Tennessee and Kansas are among the schools pursuing him.

After one year at Patterson, a national powerhouse among prep schools, Fortson would still have four years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

The 2007 Class 6A Player of the Year is already rated by Rivals.com as one of the nation's top recruits in the Class of 2008, ranked No.133 overall and No.25 among point guards. "He'll make an impact somewhere for somebody," said Posey. "He's intense. He has that competitive edge that not everyone has. Being 5-9, he plays so hard." - Birmingham News

Courtney Fortson 6-foot-2 combo guard from the Southeast elite, is a glue guy most of the time, but today he broke out of that mold versus Pump N' Run to help lead his team back in the second half. He is an excellent passer who will "D" you up or knock down jumper in your face.

02/22/07: "We're one step closer to our goal of repeating (a state championship)," JD senior Courtney Fortson said. "We're focused and trying to prepare for what's next. We can't underestimate anybody." Fortson led all scorers with 28 points and nine rebounds. - Montgomery Advertiser

02/13/07: "Little of it worked as JD's guards, led by Fortson and Davis, consistently beat the pressure defense for easy baskets. Things got so bad for the Generals midway through the second quarter that Johnson pulled his players off the free-throw line and set them up in the backcourt to ensure the Vols didn't beat his team down the floor." - Montgomery Advertiser

09/28/06: Five-foot-ten, 175-pound point guard Courtney Fortson has his eyes set on some high-major programs. Those programs are watching him as well after his strong summer playing for the Southeast Elite travel team. The catch, however, is academics. "I won't know if I'm going to prep school or college until after the basketball season," said Fortson, who is from Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala. "I'm getting my GPA up. If I make all B's, I'll have it up to a 2.7." A number of schools will track Fortson throughout the season, gauging both his academic and basketball progress and gauging their needs at the point guard position in the spring. - Yahoo Sports

03/01/06: "Courtney Fortson scored 13 points and Jeff Davis pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Huffman 49-43 and claim the Class 6A boys championship Saturday night. Jeff Davis beat Austin 65-40 in the semifinals." - Decatur Daily
