"Seven years ago, he underwent open-heart surgery that ended a once-promising football career. He hasn't let it keep him from starring on the court."

02/03/07: "The comeback spoiled an impressive night by Mitchell, one of Broward County's top scorers. He finished with a game-high 29 points despite missing nearly 5 minutes of the third quarter with a shoulder injury." - South Florida Sun-Sentinel

02/01/07: "The Chiefs advanced behind the one-two combo of senior 6-6 swingman Alvin Mitchell and junior point guard David Blackwell. Mitchell scored 23 points and had four dunks while Blackwell had 26 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. "We came in here to redeem ourselves," said Mitchell. "We came off a tough loss to Miramar the other night. It was crazy. We should have another tough one probably against Dillard on Friday. We have something to prove in Broward County. We just have to keep playing as a team." - Miami Herald

01/20/07: Attended the Bearcats / WVU game. (Overtime win)

01/19/07: "Alvin Mitchell, a 6-6 swingman for Cardinal Gibbons, walked into the St. Thomas Aquinas gym Wednesday with a chip on his shoulder.

For Mitchell, who poured in a career-high 47 points to lead the Chiefs over the Raiders 70-68 in overtime, it was as much about winning at a tough venue as it was upstaging Raiders senior guard Martavis Kee, who finished with 25 points. "All year, they were hyping him up and saying he was going to score 40 points on me and that our team was a only a one-man show," Mitchell said. "We showed them tonight that we are a team, and won it in overtime."

It all goes back to last season, when Mitchell won the Broward 6A-4A Player of the Year award for The Miami Herald and Kee won it from another publication. Mitchell vowed from that point that he would dominate Kee, who has signed with Temple, in all future matchups. "I'm not even looking at him like a rivalry or anything," Mitchell said. "I scored 38 points against him when we played AAU, so this wasn't anything. I am about to sign with a college real soon. That shows that I am going places." - Miami Herald

01/18/07: "Mitchell had a career game for the Chiefs with 45 points that included seven 3-pointers, besting the 41 points he had in a loss to Cocoa in last year's Class 4A regional semifinals."

11/11/06: "Athletic wing has ability to slash to hoop and if his jumper stays consistent look for majors to come calling. Had Pittsburgh, Memphis, Rutgers, South Florida, and Virginia Tech among schools who've shown interest." - HoopMasters/ CSTV

10/19/06: "Alvin Mitchell 6-5 SG/WF 2007 Cardinal Gibbons.
Nick Calathes was the best player, but Alvin Mitchell was the most entertaining. He has really improved his overall game since the spring. He was the camp's best scorer. He is also a good passer and very athletic. It would be interesting to see if he always plays at the level he played at this weekend. If he does he is grossly underrated." - HoopMasters.com
