03/21/07: "(Another) area player to get all-state honors was Kenny Belton of Dudley. Belton, who played center and forward, averaged 18.5 points and 8.6 rebounds and helped lead the Panthers to the state 3-A semifinals. He has signed with Cincinnati." - Greensboro News Record
03/01/07: "Belton scored a game-high 26 points, including 12 while single-handedly outscoring the Warriors in the third quarter, to lead the Panthers to a convincing 63-51 victory. (snip) The Cincinnati recruit made 11 of his 16 shots after returning from a bruised knee he suffered in the opening minutes. The lane opened for Belton upon his return to the court when the Warriors were forced out of their zone defense by three first-half 3-pointers from Marcus Heath, who finished with 10 points. "We knew that a couple of outside shots would open up the inside pretty quickly and it did," Belton said. "They went to man, and then it was easy for me to get my put-backs and score inside. I think the physical play kind of motivated me, too." " - Greensboro News Record
02/17/07: Scored 17 in a 57-49 win over Northeast Guilford. The victory meant Dudley would get the conference's top seed and a first-round game against the Mid-State 3-A's fourth-place team at home next week in the state playoffs. - Greensboro News Record

11/17/06: "Kenny Belton is a 6-8 power forward from Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC. He made an unofficial visit to the campus of the Cincinnati Bearcats on the weekend of November 11.
He had orignally committed to ACC school Maryland back on December 28th of 2005 but both parties decided it wasn't a good fit. After receiving offers and interest from several other top programs, Belton decided to commit to the Bearcats and first year Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin. He is an athletic and strong forward who is built like a football player. A super low post scorer.
Below were our comments on Belton's play at the NBA camp back in July of 2006: "This was our first look at this athletic and talented big man from North Carolina. He was active in the paint and on the glass. Showed nice mid range J and for a player his size he showed a nice ability to drive to the rim and score or get fouled. We look forward to seeing more of this player down the road." He's also an excellent student carrying 3.5 GPA." - www.PrepHoopsOnline.com
11/17/06: "University of Cincinnati basketball coach Mick Cronin has landed his third recruit for the class of 2007. Kenny Belton, a 6-foot-8, 245-pound post player from Dudley High School in Greensboro, N.C., has scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to announce that he has signed a letter-of-intent with UC.
He averaged 14.7 points last season as a junior at Dudley, the same school that produced former UC player Eric Hicks, who completed his eligibility last season ranked 23rd on the school’s career scoring list with 1,231 points." - Enquirer.com

08/25/06: "Kenny Belton thought his recruitment was over when he made a commitment to Maryland last December. But that didn't pan out, and the 6-7, 225-pound BF still doesn't understand what happened between him and the Terps." - PrepStars.com
07/25/06: "Kenny Belton, a 6-8 power forward from DC Assault lists N.C. State, Virginia, VCU, Tennessee, and Wake Forest among his leaders, but is wide open at this point." - Hoopmasters.com

Maryland recruited Belton as a power forward or a small forward, his father said. "They were impressed with his physical size, his strength and his rebounding, both offensively and defensively," Belton Sr. said."
08/23/05: Changed schools.
Kenny Belton hopes to grow into a major Division I basketball recruit. If he does, it won't be in a Salem High School uniform. Belton, who helped the Spartans to the VHSL Group AA semifinals as a freshman and was the 2004-05 Timesland Sizzlin' Sophomore of the Year, is transferring from Salem to Dudley High School in Greensboro, N.C.
Belton's father, Ken Sr., said his son will begin school in Greensboro on Thursday and added that the family will not be making the move. We're not going," the elder Belton said Monday. "He'll be staying with a family friend."
The 6-foot-7 Belton averaged 14.3 points and 8.1 rebounds and shot 52.2 percent from the field as a sophomore. His top game was a 28-point effort against Group AAA quarterfinalist Gar-Field during the Holiday Hoopla tournament at the Salem Civic Center.
Ken Belton, a former star at Roanoke College, said his son is looking to increase his profile by joining the Dudley program. Dudley, the 2003-04 Class 3-A runner-up in North Carolina, has produced numerous Division I players. Kevin Swinton, a star on last year's team, signed with Wake Forest while rising senior William Graves has committed to North Carolina. The list of former recent Dudley stars also includes Brendan Haywood (North Carolina) and Eric Hicks (Cincinnati).
"We're trying to get Kenny to the next level," he said. "They've had a lot of Division I players, plus they compete in an area where there are a lot of Division I players. "The Roanoke area has a lot of good players, too. I would say the experience in Salem has been good for all of us. It was basically a decision made by my son and myself and my wife that he would transfer to enhance his opportunities athletically, academically and socially."
Ken Belton said the family ruled out prep schools and private schools such as Oak Hill Academy in favor of Dudley, a public school. "The reason why we went to Dudley ... Kenny is a great son. I didn't think he needed to go to a prep school, and I didn't think he needed to go to a place like Oak Hill in the middle of nowhere. Greensboro has a number of colleges and universities where he can take advantage of all the things they can offer. "It's only an hour and 45 minutes to Greensboro. We'll be able to make all of Kenny's games and he can come home on weekends."
Ken Belton also said he will not rejoin the Salem coaching staff as an assistant, a post he has held since his son joined the Salem program.
