Brandon Cheatham

Class of 2001
Position: PG
School: BlackHawk
City: Beaver Falls, PA, PA
Height: 6-1
Interest: 1

7/11: "Brandon Cheatum (Beaver Falls, PA). . . you can be our floor general any day. The kid kills other PGs with his dribbles, he drills 3s, plays lockdown D, runs the break and his team was the camp champion" - HoopsTV

7/10: "Cheatum really wanted to go to Notre Dame, but when Chris Thomas (Pike H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.) committed to the Irish first, Cheatum wound up committing to Ohio State in recent weeks -- making the Buckeyes ecstatic. He has great acceleration off the dribble and tremendous floor vision. He consistently makes good decisions, delivers a well-textured pass and can also shoot the ball. This lefty was a consistent threat throughout the past two days, draining the mid-range pull-up jumper like he had a quota to fulfill." - ESPN/Recruiting USA

7/10: Selected to the ABCD Senior All Star game, July 10, 2000 - Insiders Report

6/28: "will attend Ohio State, which is four hours from home. The Buckeyes had been recruiting Brandon for nearly two seasons. The other finalists were N.C. State and Memphis." - Rivals100Hoops.com

6/13: "Blackhawk High floor general Brandon Fuss-Cheatham, a 6-0, 180 lb., senior-to-be is considered by many to be one of the top point guard prospects in the nation. Despite reports to the contrary, Brandon has a list of only three possible collegiate destinations. All Star Report spoke with Fuss-Cheatham recently about his recruitment. He confirmed that only Ohio State, N.C. State and Memphis. are under serious consideration. All three have offered scholarships according to Brandon. He recently took an unofficial visit to the OSU campus, and has scheduled trips to both NC State and Memphis for later this month. "I was very impressed with OSU," said Brandon, who made the trip with his grandmother. He also took an unofficial visit to the Wolfpack's campus while participating in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tournament of Champions last month." - AllStar Report

6/6: "Beaver Falls (PA) Blackhawk PG Brandon Fuss-Cheatam is a wanted man. He's narrowed his list to N.C. State, Ohio State and Memphis. He'll take unofficial visits to each in the coming weeks and a decision could be on the horizon. It looks like PA PG Brandon Fuss-Cheatam will make an early decision about his collegiate future. He told Rivals100Hoops that he could decide within the next month. Fuss-Cheatam will make an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Thursday, June 8. A week ago on this site, we ran a story about Fuss-Cheatam's connections to the various colleges, which were recruiting him. We told you high school coach is N.C. State assistant Sean Miller's father. We also noted that Fuss-Cheatam has a previous relationship with Memphis head coach John Calipari. What we didn't tell you was the connection to Ohio State. The Buckeyes need a PG and coach Jim O'Brien has had success with PGs in the past, most recently Scoonie Penn. The Buckeyes have been recruiting Fuss-Cheatam for a long time and he ranks high on their wish list. After taking the unofficial visit to Ohio State, Fuss-Cheatam will then attend N.C. State's team camp on June 15. Fuss-Cheatam recently made an unofficial visit to N.C. State during the Bob Gibbons event. Finally, Fuss-Cheatam has an unofficial visit to Memphis scheduled for June 23. It's entirely possible he makes a decision upon completion of these unofficial visits. - Rivals 100 Hoops

5/31: "..plays basketball for Beaver Falls (PA) Blackhawk High. The head coach of that team is John Miller. One of John Miller's former players, Sean Miller (left), is an assistant at N.C. State. Get the connection? Fuss-Cheatam is down to three schools. Can you guess one of them?

5/26: "The early list for 6'1 Jr Brandon Cheatham from Beaver Falls (Black Hawk) PA includes Memphis, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and N.C. State, which makes perfect sense. Obviously, it's the John Calipari connection that gets the Tigers right at the top of the list. Remember, Calipari and Cheatham's AAU coach John Miller are related. Apparently Calipari is telling Cheatham that he can step in and run the show and 6'2 Jr Dajuan Wagner from Camden (H.S.) NJ, who is ranked as the #1 junior in the nation by the HOOP SCOOP, will see a lot of action at the 2-spot. And this too is sellable, because Calipari had a history of playing several guards together in the backcourt (i.e. Edgar Padilla, Derek Kellogg, and Camerlo Travieso) and not really worrying about their positions. Ohio State makes the list, because it's only an hour and a half away from where Cheatham lives and Pittsburgh gets mentioned because his father wants him to stay close to home so he can see him play. Cincinnat is also natural, because J.O. Stright, who is the general manager of the Pittsburgh Jots, is a close friend of Bearcats head coach Bobby Huggins. Remember, Danny Fortson, who is another one of Stright's former players, played for the Cincinnati. N.C. State also makes sense, because John Miller's older son, Sean Miller, is an assistant coach for the Wolfpack, and his younger son, Arch Miller, plays for N.C. State." - Hoop Scoop

5/27: "made an unofficial visit to Duke's campus while participating in the Bob Gibbons' Tournament of Champions." - Rivals100Hoops.com

5/25: "is making an unofficial visit to N.C. State May 25. Fuss-Cheatam ranks as one of the top PG prospects in the Class of 2001. He plays for John Miller's high school team. Coach Miller is the father of N.C. State assistant Sean Miller." - Rivals100Hoops.com

5/24: "John Miller informed Atlantic East Hoops that his star lead guard, Brandon Fuss-Cheatum (6'1 190) is getting lots of attention. His current leaders are NC State and Ohio State and Brandon is likely to commit sooner than later. Cheatum is a very good offensive player, capable of nailing the mid range jumper, the three ball and driving in the paint creating offense for his team. Cheatum has gotten the best of Notre Dame signee Chris Thomas on two seperate occasions this year. - ACC Recruiting Update
