Deonta Vaughn

Class of 2006
Position: PG
School: Harmony Prep
City: Cincinnati, OH, OH
Height: 5-11
Interest: SIGNED

Committed Apr 19, 2006

04/19/06: "Vaughn originally commited to Indiana but both parties went their seperate ways in late 2005. Before he decided to become a Bearcat some of the other schools that became interested in Vaughn were ILL, Nebraska, Oakland (MI) and Southern Cal. What Vaughn will bring to new Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin's team is a good shooter who handles the ball well. He is a strong defender, but needs to work on taking the ball to the hoop better. Should be a solid player for Cincinnati." - www.PrepHoopsOnline.com

04/19/06: "Mick Cronin will soon ink his first four-year recruit. Deonta Vaughn committed to the Bearcats according to Rodney Crawford, his coach at Harmony Community School in Cincinnati. Vaughn committed to Indiana as a senior at Indianapolis' Arlington High School, but attended Harmony this past season to concentrate on getting eligible to play at a Div. I school. "He got the score," Crawford said. "He hasn'’t taken an official visit. He'’s seen the campus, I'’ve taken him there and everything."

Crawford said Vaughn was 6-foot-1, even though many services have called him 5-11 -- and in the basketball world, the truth may lie somewhere in between. Crawford said Vaughn averaged 17.4 ppg, 6.6 apg and 4.3 rpg and can play either guard position." - Trents blog

(changed height to 5-11, from 5-10)

04/19/06: Committed, per his HS coach, to Cincinnati.

04/17/06: "According to Vaughn, he might make a decision about his future and sign a Letter-of-Intent next week. A lot of that depends on how his visit to Oakland goes. "I might commit early next week," said Vaughn. "I might actually decide after I get back from my visit to Oakland. I have not made a decision yet, but that's probably what I will do. I don't know if another visit will happen or not. "If I do decide to take a visit to Cincinnati, I will probably pick a school after I return home," he added. "If that visit does take place, I will make the decision a few days after the visit is over." - www.ScoutHoops.com

04/06/06: "Things with my recruitment are going good," said Vaughn. "I am going to take official visits to Oakland and Cincinnati. I have not scheduled those two visits yet, but I hope to take them during or right after spring break. If for some reason I am not ready to decide on one of those schools after I visit each of them, I will take some more visits," he added. "Right now, I am only set on taking official visits to Oakland and Cincinnati." - www.RivalsHoops.com

12/07/05: "This burly PG had very good weekend. If we had a vote he would have been on the 1st team all tourney team. He shot the ball well. We'd like to see him go to the hole more instead of settling for the 3, but this kid is likely a HM recruit or MM+ at worst." - www.PrepHoopsOnline.com

11/14/05: "Harmony Prep was led by first team all tournament Deonta Vaughn with 29 points, Tyrone Appleton scored 13 points, Marcus Rhodes scored 12 points, Alex Tyus scored 11 points." Harmony won the tourney. This is the championship game stats. - HoopsUSA.com

10/06/05: "The Indiana commitment is 6'0 fifth year combo guard Deonta Vaughn (Indianapolis). He is a very good shooter from deep with his high arching jumper that looks like the one in the Basketball 101 textbook. He is able to move the ball well on the break and find the open man if his shot isn't there." - www.PrepHoopsOnline.com

2004 -
July 2004 - We also were very impressed by the performance turned in by 5'11 Deonta Vaughn from Indianapolis (Arlington) IN, who hit three straight 3-pointers, get to the basket, played excellent defense, and ran the show when I saw him on the first afternoon of camp. As a matter of fact, based on his performance here, Vaughn is a better prospect than 6'0 Dominic James from Richmond (H.S.) IN. And that's saying a lot when one remembers that James is ranked #67 nationally by the HOOP SCOOP and is already bound of Marquette." - NIKE All American Camp notes from HoopScoopOnline.com
