04/14/05: "The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball program has landed a fifth member to its 2005-06 recruiting class as DeAndre Coleman of Stone Mountain, Ga. inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Bearcats, head coach Bob Huggins announced today.
Coleman, a 6-6, 225-pound small forward, averaged 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds at Stephenson High School, where he played for coach Kerry Sandifer. Coleman, who earned Georgia All-State honors in Class 5A, also played in the Atlanta All-Star Classic. In that game, Coleman led the East team to an 85-84 win with a team-best 20 points, and hit the game-winning shot with 10 seconds remaining in the game.
"He is a perimeter guy with great size, similar to James (White) and Armein (Kirkland). We are hoping he can gain more strength so he can build on his game at the college level," said Huggins. "He is a wide-body wing player with good ball skills." - UCBearcats.com

04/11/05: "I think DeAndre was one of the most under recruited players in the southeast this year. SEC schools did recruit him. They moved on to different players because of some possible academic questions. He's a good scorer, shooter and rebounder that can play the three and four spots. Not all that quick but he's strong and versatile. A good late get. I'm still waiting to get confirmation. He told me that he was going to commit when they offered. I know they offered him this weekend but I haven't heard directly from him yet." - Rivals.com
04/11/05: Verbally committed, per his AAU Coach.
04/11/05: "DeAndre Coleman, who made an official recruiting visit to UC over the weekend, said Sunday he'll decide today which school he'll attend. Coleman, a 6-foot-7 forward from Stephenson High School in Atlanta, also visited Tulane and Toledo. He averaged 14.9 points and 8.1 rebounds last season." - Enquirer.com
04/08/05: Two basketball recruits have scheduled official visits to the University of Cincinnati campus for this weekend. DeAndre Coleman, a 6-foot-7 forward from Stephenson High School in Atlanta, and Ed Turner, a 6-8 forward from Central Florida Community College, are expected to arrive at UC today. Coleman averaged 14.9 points and 8.1 rebounds last season." - Enquirer.com
04/06/05: Will visit this weekend, per Rivals. "DeAndre Coleman will work out for Providence as well while they are in town. Coleman will officially visit Cincy this weekend, too." (thanks O.)
04/03/05: "For most of this past season, Deandre Coleman was overshadowed by his Stephenson teammate Alade Aminu. Saturday, the 6-foot-7 forward blossomed in the spotlight at the Atlanta All-Star Classic. Coleman scored 20 points, including the game-winning points on a dunk with 10 seconds remaining, to lead the East squad to an 85-84 win over the West at Morris Brown College. "He really made me look good," joked Stephenson coach Kerry Sandifer, who also coached the East squad in the game. "He stepped up real big, and you always want to see that in a player that you have coached. He played really great for us all season." - Atlanta JC
03/27/05: Named Honorable Mention in Class 5A. - Atlanta JC
03/21/05: "Among the players UC is recruiting are: Mario Bogan, 6-7, 225 pounds from Chipola (Fla.) College; Ivan Johnson, 6-7, 235 from Los Angeles (Calif.) Southwest Community College; Torre Johnson, 6-7, 210 from Garden City (Kan.) Community College, Ed Turner, 6-8 from Central Florida Community College; and DeAndre Coleman, a 6-7 wing player from Stephenson (Ga.) High School." - Enquirer.com
03/15/05: Averaged 15 ppg and 8 rpg this season.
03/12/05: "The schools currently showing interest include Auburn, Toledo, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia, and Wichita State." - HoopMasters.com
03/09/05: Listed as the 14th best player in Georgia for 2005. "Coleman, a strong small forward is a good inside-out player that improved as a shooter this season." -RivalsHoops.com
02/24/05: "Stephenson forward DeAndre Coleman isn't about to second-guess his decision to decline several college basketball scholarship offers during last fall's early signing period.
Though letters of intent from Toledo, Tulane and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga were appealing, the 6-foot-7 Coleman opted to wait until March or April to sign in hopes that the big-time programs would take notice during his senior season.
With Cincinnati and Florida State suddenly showing interest, the senior's gamble appears to be paying off. "I didn't feel I had received the offers I deserved," said Coleman, reflecting on November. "Some of the people I play against are ranked much higher than me. But I feel I'm better than a lot of them. So I figured, 'Why should I settle for what was being offered?' "
Stephenson coach Kerry Sandifer equates Coleman, who is averaging 13.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, to a 6-foot-2 guard in the body of a 6-foot-7 forward. "DeAndre is just real versatile," Sandifer said. "You got a guy who is 6-7 that can shoot it, pass it, rebound, can go inside and outside. He creates a matchup problem."
Coleman figures that he was slow to draw attention from upper-echelon schools because he waited until the summer after his junior season to travel on the AAU circuit. "That hurt," Coleman said. "I've noticed the high-level players get to the big camps and big tournaments and get their name out more. But I know can compete with them. If I had got out to the big tournaments and camps, I feel I would have been much higher."
When the Jaguars step onto the hardwood, the front court of Coleman and 6-foot-10 Georgia Tech signee Alade Aminu offers a challenge to the opposition for reasons other than their height.
"DeAndre and Alade are not your average guys," Sandifer said. "They're not big clunkers. They're very athletic and agile. They can move, and they're hard to match up with."
The original three scholarship offers are still there for the taking. But before making a decision, Coleman plans to visit Cincinnati on March 9 - just days after the Class AAAAA championship game, which he hopes to use as a stage to display his talent.
Sandifer, who continues to contact college coaches on behalf of Coleman, termed his prized forward a sleeper. "He was, I think, under the radar," Sandifer said. "But they're really picking up on him now.
"I thought he had some good offers. But I told him 'I can admire what you're doing because you're accepting the challenge.' And he's accepted that challenge and has performed very well." - Atlanta Journal-Constitution
07/24/03: Scored 14 points in the all star game at the "Blue-Chip" Basketball Camp in Georgetown KY.
