Earlier in the week, the Bearcats signed 6-11 South Miami Center Abdul Herrera. McGowan, an All-Dade selection in 2002, is in his second season at Kilgore College in Texas. 11/19/04: "The University of Cincinnati announced the signing of Cedric McGowan as the fourth player of the early signing period Thursday. McGowan is a 6-foot-7 power forward at Kilgore (Texas) College. He is ranked the No. 7 junior college power forward by Lindy's. "He is a strong, physical, athletic player who will bring much-needed maturity to our team next season," coach Bob Huggins said. "Cedric plays the game really hard and will be reminiscent to Bearcat fans of (former UC forward) Curtis Bostic. We expect him to help our frontcourt right away."

In five games this season, McGowan has averaged 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, leading the Rangers to a 5-0 record. 11/18/04: "Kilgore Colleges Cedric McGowan signed an early letter of intent this week to further his collegiate career and education with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Before choosing the Bearcats, the 6'7" sophomore from Miami entertained offers from Auburn, Penn State and South Florida.

"I'm really excited about getting the opportunity to play for a big-time program," McGowan said. "When I was growing up I always wanted to play for a team that would be on TV a lot and playing in the NCAA tournament. I'm really looking forward to it."

Through the first five games this year, McGowan is shooting 66 percent from the floor while averaging 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds. All numbers are improved from his freshman campaign when he averaged 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and shot 53 percent. He has helped the Rangers to a 5-0 start this season and looks to continue his contributions as Kilgore opens conference play at 4 p.m. this Saturday at home in Masters Gymnasium against San Jacinto." - Kilgore.edu
