10/10/03: "Better athletes were available at power forward in the current crop of high school seniors, but there aren't many better basketball players the size of forward Brian Johnson, who yesterday made a verbal commitment to the University of Louisville. The 6-foot-9 245-pounder, who will play this season at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., has the size and offensive polish to be an immediate factor in the post for the Cardinals but also has the versatility to fit into coach Rick Pitino's up-tempo system. He is the fourth player to make a verbal commitment to the Cards for next season in what is shaping up as at least a top-10 recruiting class." - Louisville C-J

09/29/03: "Oak Hill Academy (Va.) senior forward Brian Johnson returned from a trip to Louisville this past weekend and Rick Pitino's program is in the lead for the former Bishop O'Connell star.
Johnson's uncle, Ronnie Ingram, confirmed that Johnson will only take one more visit - to Georgia Tech in two weeks. He'll make his decision soon after coming back from Tech. "That's the only other visit he'll take," Ingram said. "He's basically down to Louisville and Georgia Tech with Notre Dame a distant third." - InsidersHoops.com (4 to 1)

09/25/03: Listed as the 27th best player in his class. - PrepStars (Oettinger)

09/18/03: "The starting center will be 6-9, 236 lbs., Brian Johnson, a transfer from Arlington, VA, Archbishop O' Connell High School. According to (Oak Hill head coach) Steve Smith, Johnson has been very impressive with his scoring from inside and outside, and his ability to power to the hoop. He is projected to become a top flight collegiate power forward. Coach Smith said that just before Johnson left Arlington, VA, to come to Oak Hill, he (Johnson) received a telephone call from Coach Roy Williams informing him that North Carolina would not be recruiting him. Johnson now has the following campus visits scheduled: Notre Dame on September 19; Louisville on September 26; Cincinnati on October 4; Georgia Tech on October 11; and Arizona for “Midnight Madness” on October 17." - HoopMasters.com

09/17/03: "Brian Johnson from Oak Hill Academy kept busy last week, hosting several of the nation’s top collegiate coaches. Stopping by to visit with Johnson last week were Mike Brey from Notre Dame, Lute Olson from Arizona, Paul Hewitt from Georgia Tech and Bob Huggins from CINCINNATI. University of Louisville Head Coach made the trip to see Johnson last Wednesday and according to Oak Hill Academy Head Coach Steve Smith, the visit went well. Johnson will make an official visit to UofL next weekend (9/27). This weekend, Johnson will officially visit Notre Dame. Following his trip to Louisville next week, Johnson visits Cincinnati (10/4), Georgia Tech (10/11) and will visit Arizona on October 17 for the Wildcats Midnight Madness." - InsideTheVille.com (Louisville) (3 to 4)

09/17/03: "Our Washington DC Area Editor Steve Turner tells us that. . . Florida State, Connecticut, and Arizona are now the schools to beat for 6'3 Isaiah Swann from Chatham (Hargrave Military) VA and that Louisville is still the leader for 6'9 Brian Johnson from Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) VA." - HoopScoop

09/10/03: "Brian Johnson has two schools coming to visit him on Wednesday. Louisville head coach Rick Pitino will be at Oak Hill and so will Cincinnati head coach Bob Huggins. Johnson’s revised school list reads Notre Dame, the two aforementioned schools, plus Arizona and Georgia Tech." - InsidersHoops

09/08/03: "Brian Johnson’s recruitment has kind of operated in a gray area the last few weeks. In that time, he’s switched high schools and now we’ve got the latest on his top five college choices and there’s a twist. Brian Johnson, our No. 28 senior, has it down to five schools, according to a source. In fact, Notre Dame (Sept. 9), Louisville (Sept. 10), Cincinnati (Sept. 10), Georgia Tech (Sept. 11) and Arizona will conduct in-home visits with him this month." - InsidersHoops

07/09/03: "This 2004 prospect, mulling over offers from North Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Miami-FL, and UCLA, put on a low post clinic, scoring on an array of powerful back to the basket moves. He even stepped out to the three point line and knocked down a shot. Johnson possesses a potent combination of athleticism, skill, and desire for a big man, making him a threat anywhere within 20 feet of the basket." - RivalsHoops.com

07/09/03: Nike Camp Notes from HoopMasters.com
"Powered past defenders in the lane…Followed up a couple of missed shots with a dunk…Drained the 18-footer."
"On this day he was making jump shots left and right, most of which were from 16-18 feet…Rebounded well at both ends."
"Played the hardest we’ve seen him play all camp against Al Jefferson…While it was clear that his knees were bothering him, that didn’t stop him from again knocking down the 16-18 foot jumpers. Won the rebounding battle against AJ. Also scored on tip-ins around the hoop, short face up shots, and in the post via the drop step."
- HoopMasters

04/30/03: "This versatile big man has great instincts for the ball. He can update drive and can explode to hoop. He had a couple highlight tip dunks in games we watched. He has touch to 17-feet to set up inside game. He is getting interest from Maryland, Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida, Virginia, and Notre Dame." - Hoopmasters.com
