Perseverance Pays for Warren

04/19/06: "The 6-foot-3 point guard, who played at Cathedral High School and later at Holyoke High, has signed with the University of Cincinnati men's basketball program.

Warren averaged 22.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 3.7 steals for the Globe Institute of Technology, a junior college in New York City, last season. He had previously played for Colby (Kan.) Community College.

A strong consideration for Warren, who can play either guard spot, was his preference to play the point. He considered the University of Massachusetts last winter, but the Minutemen appear set at point guard with returning starter Chris Lowe and Tiki Mayben, who is expected to regain his academic eligibility after sitting out his freshman season. - MassLive.com

04/18/06: "Coming out of high school, Jamual Warren wanted to play basketball for the University of Cincinnati. After prep school and two junior colleges, Warren will be a Bearcat. UC announced Monday that Warren, a 6-foot-2 guard, had signed a scholarship to play for the Bearcats. "It took me a little while to learn what I do," said Warren, who was a second-team Junior College All-American at Globe Institute of Technology in New York. "Two years ago I was upset I had to go to a junior college. Everything's been a blessing. Coming to Globe, going to Kansas. Every year things have gotten better." - More at CincyPost.com

04/17/06: "According to his junior college coach, Jamaul is 6-foot-2 and nearly 200 pounds. "He's a man. He's not a boy coming in, he's 22," Ken Wilcox said. "The last couple of years the way the Big East has gotten stronger, some of the kids who come in and play right away from high school aren't read for how physical the game is in the Big East." Jamaul said he feels he's a point guard, but is comfortable playing off the ball. Mick Cronin said he feels Jamaul will be a two-guard. "He's got a scoring mentality," Cronin said. - From C Trent's blog (excerpt)

04/17/06: Jamual Warren, who earned junior college All-American honors at Globe Institute of Technology this past season, has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue his basketball and academic careers at the University of Cincinnati. A 6-2 scoring guard from Springfield, Mass., Warren averaged 22.2 points and 5.9 assists in 2005-06 while leading Globe to a No. 14 ranking in the final junior college polls. Warren was named to the NJCAA All-Region XV first team and was a second team NJCAA Division I All-American. He was also selected to the Region XV all-tournament team after helping Globe reach the championship game.
Warren played at Colby Community College in Kansas in 2004-05 where he earned Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year honors. "Jamual is a veteran performer and a solid young man who can give us toughness at the guard position," stated UC head coach Mick Cronin. "He is a scorer. He can make shots from the perimeter and he takes the ball to the basket with great strength. Obviously, we have a need for immediate help at the guard positions with our departures, and Jamual is very capable of providing that."
Warren is the third member of Cincinnati's signing class. The Bearcats previously securred the commitments of Marvin Gentry, a 6-3 guard who was the conference's player of the year at McLennan Community College, and John Williamson, a 6-6 forward who was a first team All-American selection at Cincinnati State. - UC Press Release

---2004---
02/27/04: Changed from 2003 recruit to 2004 recruit. Still listed by Rivals as having interest in/by Cincinnati, but not by HoopMasters or Insiders. - Mike Ryan

9/29/02: "Warren, who was recently at Paterson Catholic High School in New Jersey, has enrolled at Milford Academy in Connecticut. Warren, who injured his hand while at Paterson Catholic, is expected to be at 100 percent by the time this season starts for Milford. Rivalshoops.com confirmed this information with a source close to Warren. Initially, Warren was expected to return to Notre Dame Prep this fall. He started out three years ago at ND Prep as a freshman, and then bounced to a public school in Holyoke, Mass., the last few years." - http://rivalshigh.rivals.com/

9/6/02: Listed as the 15th best PG in his class. 73rd, overall. - Rivals Hoops

7/22/02: "Jamual Warren told us that he is headed back to Notre Dame Prep this year. The 6-2 athletic combo-guard played very unselfishly at ABCD Camp and impressed us with his ability to deliver the rock as well as get to the rim. Outside shooting is still a question mark, but he is a solid high major prospect. Memphis, St. John's, Seton Hall, Maryland, and Providence have all offered, but he told us that his favorite school in Cincinnati. He very much wants the Bearcats to recruit him. Warren averaged 23 points and 11 assists per game last season." - All Star Report

7/18: "Memphis has the inside track for 6'3 Jamual Warren from Fitchburg (Notre Dame) MA, but Maryland, St. John's, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova, DePaul, and Louisville also make the list." - Hoop Scoop

5/27: "Warren scored a basket with three seconds left in the semifinals to stun the Worldwide Renegades, an AAU roster that features at least nine high Division I players. Warren, along with Art Bowers (tournament's MVP) and Demetris Nichols (Syracuse bound) then knocked off a tough Baltimore Select team in the final to capture the Select championship." - Sporting News

5/27: "Memphis is showing the most interest right now," Warren said. "They are working me hard. But there are other schools I am interested in too." Warren has five schools atop his early list. Warren told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Louisville and Memphis are among his early favorites. He is also listing UMass, Maryland, Wake Forest, Oklahoma and Connecticut. Warren said he has been offered thus far by Seton Hall, and has already taken unofficial visits to UMass, UConn, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Maryland and Memphis." - Insiders Report

5/15: "Warren is still fine tuning his perimeter shot. But his constant motor and slashing ability make him a difficult assignment for any defense." - Insiders Report

4/26/02: "Warren told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Maryland and Memphis.

Warren put up big numbers this season at Holyoke, where he said he averaged 22.3 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists and four steals per contest after transferring into the public school ranks from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass. Ironically enough, Warren could be headed back to Notre Dame next fall, since Bill Barton is returning in the fall and will resume the reins of the basketball program. An explosive athlete who thrives in up tempo situations, Warren is still fine tuning his perimeter shot. But his constant motor and slashing ability make him a difficult assignment for any defense." - Insiders Reports
