Verbal to UConn
4/14: "Monte Cummings, a 6'4" G from SE Iowa JC, has told people that he and 6'7" teammate Johnnie Selvie will sign with Denny Crum and the Louisville Cardinals. Cummings is good, but Selvie is very good, and will help make Louisville a more potent team should they actually go ahead and sign. The idea of continuing to play together is an appealing one, but if Selvie decides to go elsewhere, Cummings may still sign with Louisville or perhaps Georgia. Cummings is also being recruited by Florida State and Georgia among others. Selvie is being heavily recruited by Michigan, UCONN, and South Florida." - MidSouth Hoops
4/12: In an interview with Juco Junction, Selvie does >not< list Cincinnati or Xavier as a top school.
4/7: "has visited Louisville and South Florida, and at this time, those two schools are considered co-favorites. He is reportedly scheduled to make a trip to UConn this weekend, and one to Michigan the following weekend (April 14-16). Selvie was averaging 14.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. His shooting percentage from the floor was a superb 55.4%. An athletic forward, Selvie is not a three-point shooter but rather a hard worker who can rebound and score inside. - AllStar Report
3/29: "Monte Cummings' teammate, Johnnie Selvie, has also been interested in UC but is not likely to get a scholarship offer from Huggins, UNLESS Jamaal Davis' commitment turns out to be soft." - Randy Shinkle
3/28: "continues to be one of the most sought after available JuCo forwards in the nation. The 6-7, 230 lb Selvie visited South Florida this past weekend and has already taken a trip to Louisville. Michigan coach Brian Ellerbe is also heavily pursuing this strong rebounder who ended his season averaging double points in both scoring and rebounding for the Junior College National Champions. - Insiders Report
3/25/00: "An assistant from juco national champ S.E. Iowa visited town today and told me that Memphis coach John Calipari is trying to get 6'7" Johnnie Selvie to visit, Selvie is being recruited by all the big-time programs." - MidSouth Hoops
3/23/00: "Selvie is definitely a top 20 JUCO prospect. You cannot put a value on heart and determination, two qualities which Selvie has in abundant quantity. He's not the most skilled guy in the world, but you would take him in your fox hole any day ! He'll give you a consistent effort night in and night out, and has a great attitude to boot." -- JucoJunction
3/22/00: "Heading into the NJCAA national tournament, the 6-7 Selvie was averaging 14.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. His shooting percentage from the floor was a superb 55.4%. An athletic forward, Selvie is not a three-point shooter but rather a hard worker who can rebound and score inside. Coach O'Brien told me that Johnnie took an official visit to Louisville back in February, and is likely to visit South Florida this weekend. Joe also mentioned that schools such as Michigan, Kentucky, Alabama, and Cincinnati have called his office within the past week regarding Johnnie's status. Selvie continues to work hard in the classroom, and despite likely having to take a summer school class to graduate, coach O'Brien is confident that he will be eligible to play next season at the college of his choice." AllStar Report
3/20/00: "We heard Cincy likes Johnnie Selvie from Southeastern Iowa, but (UC) could not see him at the JUCO tournament as they were preparing for Tulsa. Plus, Cincy knows they are behind on Selvie. Southeastern CC of Iowa recently won the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. by defeating Calhoun State CC of Alabama by a score of 84-70. Since then, the phone lines of head coach Joe O'Brien have been flooded by calls from college coaching staffs looking to recruit two of Southeastern's top players. I spoke to coach Joe O'Brien this morning, and he passed along the following information on star sophomore Johnnie Selvie. Selvie is a 6-7, 230 lb sophomore forward who was the driving force behind Southeastern's run to the NJCAA National Championship. A native of Flint Michigan, (Northern HS) Johnnie scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the championship final. He was named to the all-tournament team, and All Star Report's Editor-in-chief Bob Gibbons rated Selvie as the third best prospect regardless of position who participated in the NJCAA national tournament, and the top available prospect in attendance in Hutchinson. Heading into the NJCAA national tournament, the 6-7 Selvie was averaging 14.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. His shooting percentage from the floor was a superb 55.4%." - two articles, AllStar Report
1/28/00: "I've been wanting to go there since 6th grade. I like how Bob Huggins handles arguments with his players. I love that. I like how they run and gun and they get their big man the ball in the post almost every time they get down the floor. And as we know, the home of JUCO players is Cincinnati and I would love to go to Cincinnati." - Johnnie Selvie, interview from JUCO Junction
1/28/00: Selvie mentions Cincinnati in an interview (see above) as being on his 'secondary' list of schools. He lists 11 schools total.
