11/23/03: "Georgia guard Corey Gibbs was suspended for nine games Friday for making more than $500 from selling textbooks and school supplies, a violation of NCAA rules. Gibbs, a freshman, won't be eligible to play until Dec. 30, when the Bulldogs play Pittsburgh. A knee injury kept him from practicing full time in the preseason. "This is a shame because Corey has missed most of the past year of competition and has been working so hard to get back on the court," new Georgia coach Dennis Felton said. "Now, his poor judgment and mistake in behavior are only further delaying his opportunity to compete." Gibbs was the only recruit signed by former coach Jim Harrick who decided to come to Georgia" -Assoc press.

8/3/02: Verballed to Georgia -
"Jim Harrick picked up his third verbal commitment for next season's recruiting class this week as Corey Gibbs told Harrick and his staff that he wanted to come to Athens, Gibbs' mother said Friday." - Athens Banner-Herald

7/10: Listed as the 38th best player in his class. - www.rivals.com

7/8/02: "Undersized power forward Corey Gibbs, 6-6 (Redan H.S./Stone Mountain, Ga.) has played like a monster for three days straight. Gibbs just keeps taking it inside and finishing no matter the odds, and, is showing the ability to hit the mid-range jumper. A great rebounder, Gibbs is a rising senior." - ESPN

7/8: "A very good player when he plays aggressively. He didn't do much in the first half, but then he started to take the ball to the basket, and had a much better second half." - Recruiting Nation

6/28/02: Listed as 'Fourth Team All State'. - HoopScoop

6/11: "Corey Gibbs consistently mentions Cincy as a leader, which probably means top 3, top 5 at worse for Cincy. We do know it may be hard to beat out the SEC, especially Georgia and Alabama, and Georgia Tech is making a move as well." - All Star Report

6/7: "Our first thought when watching Gibbs on the court for Worldwide was that he'd be the prototype power forward type for the Atlanta Celtics, kind of a cross between a Donnell Harvey and a Greg Tinch (turns out we were right, we was told later that he came up through the Atlanta Celtics program). Physically, he's a well-muscled athlete, who likes contact. Though he looked shorter than the listed 6-8 in the program, Gibbs plays taller. He's active and can defend on the perimeter, which should allow him to play both forward positions at the next level. A quick leaper who can dunk the ball in his sleep. Very good rebounder and plays aggressive." - ESPN.com

5/31: "Alabama and Cincinnati are my top two schools right now," Gibbs said. "I am also interested in Georgetown. But I haven't closed my list. I am still open. But Alabama and Cincinnati have been recruiting me a while." - RivalsHoops

4/2/02: "Pace High School star Corey Gibbs is one of the nation’s top power forward prospects for the 2003 recruiting campaign. The Atlanta, Georgia native makes up for his lack of height with tremendous strength and athleticism. At 6-foot-7, 235-pounds and a 36-inch vertical, Gibbs is a tenacious rebounder with a developing low post offensive game. During his junior campaign, Gibbs led pace to a 27-4 record. He averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks per contest.

Gibbs says that it’s a four-team race for his signature between CINCINNATI, Alabama, North Carolina and Georgetown (order as mentioned). Although he grew up a fan of the Tar Heels and the Hoyas, Gibbs quickly notes that he is most likely to decide! between Cincy and ‘Bama. Gibbs has been OFFERED by CINCINNATI and commented on the Bearcats. "I like coach Huggins. He is all about defense and defense wins championships," he said. "I really like the campus at Cincinnati. I could see myself fitting in there."

Alabama has also offered and is very much in the hunt. "I like coach Gottfried and I like his coaching style,” he said. "I like the way they play an up tempo style of basketball … that is what I want to play in college. And, I like their campus and the fact they stress academics as well athletics.” Gibbs has taken unofficial visits to both Cincinnati and Alabama and is likely to make a decision early this summer. When asked to name a leader, Gibbs responded. "I’m leaning to Cincinnati slightly over Alabama. I really don’t know why. I just really like Cincinnati. I visited both campuses, but I just liked Cincinnati’s the best. I liked Alabama also, I really don’t know why right now. I’m going to make a decision before next season starts,” he said. "I want to go to camp first (Nike Camp), then I might come back and make a decision. I’m not ready to do anything right now." Gibbs said that he has schedule official visits with Alabama, Cincinnati, and Georgetown. - BamaOnLine.com

3/27/02- 6'8 Jr PF Corey Gibbs, Atlanta (Pace Academy), is refining his skills to get reafy for the AAU state, Elite Spring Showcase, Houston Kingwood Classic, and the Atlanta Jam. Corey is holding on to the top spot in the junior class." - Georgia Elite

3/14: "Corey Gibbs now says...that Bama and Cincy are his leaders according to Prepstars. Gibbs had a real good season averaging 24 points, 15 boards, three blocks per game at Pace Academy. Schools are apparently looking at him as a 3/4 combo, and he can shoot from outside some. Prepstars says Gibbs hearing the most from Alabama, Cincy and Georgetown and has visited North Carolina, Alabama, N.C. State, Georgia and Cincinnati unofficially. Apparently has offers from Bama and Cincy. Gibbs is supposed to be an "athleticism model power forward" and is an an oustanding leaper. He's quoted by Prepstars saying he's 'looking at getting my degree in three or four years and wants to play close to home so his mom can see him.'" - unknown post-er on the Georgia Rivals site

2/24: "The (Pace Academy) Knights avenged a loss Saturday with a 62-51 victory over No. 13 Morgan, which hosted the game. Gibbs had 11 of his 25 points in the period, as Pace built a 13-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Gibbs also had 17 rebounds and several spectacular dunks and blocks." - Atlanta J-C

2/10: "Corey Gibbs scored 16 points and hauled in 17 rebounds as Pace Academy overcame Decatur's home-court advantage and earned a 47-35 victory for the Region 5-AA North title." - Atlanta J-C

1/21/02: "Junior Corey Gibbs is developing into a serious high-major target. The Atlanta Pace Academy forward, averaging 24 points and over 10 rebounds a game, already has a leader but first wants to focus on the season at hand. "I'm ready to take it to the state," Gibbs said. "We have a real good chance as long as we keep our heads on straight and nobody gets an injury." An improved perimeter game is what Gibbs is showcasing these days. "I'm trying to fit it into my game. That's the biggest improvement. I'm shooting more and a lot more comfortable than last year. We've got a big guy and he can stay down low and let's me play on the wing. It's the four, but I'm stepping out and shooting." Right now, he lists Alabama, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Georgetown. According to Gibbs, all have been down to watch, including Alabama's Mark Gottfried and Cincinnati's Bob Huggins. Georgetown assistant Rony Thompson and UNC's Fred Quartlebaum have been in town as well. There is a leader. "Probably Cincinnati right now," Gibbs said. "I guess they've been the most aggressive in trying to recruit me and I really like their style of play. I'm trying to [get the list down] to where I could commit this summer." Cincinnati and 'Bama have offered already. Gibbs will play with Team Georgia and attend Nike Camp just as he did last summer." - CNN SI, Dave Telep

1/10/02: "Recruiting analyst Clint Jackson reports that UNC is no longer the leader for Corey Gibbs. While the 6'8" wing stated earlier that Carolina was his leader, he now concedes that Cincinnati has moved into the top spot with Georgetown second. He said he feels that he wouldn't get as much playing time at UNC because of the great players they have recruited and that he can see immediate playing time for the Bearcats. Gibbs did say that Carolina is in his top three and that they are "right there" so nothing is a done deal at this time. He said he thoroughly enjoyed his visit to the campus in November and loved the atmosphere. He said he liked the tradition and the fan support even though it is a down year for Carolina." - Clint Jackson and Tony's UNC page.

1/10/02: "Cincinnati, UNC and Georgetown. They're the three that are on top of my list," Gibbs said. He's stated that the Tar Heels were the early frontrunners before, but at the current time, Bob Huggins and the Bearcats of Cincinnati occupy that spot. "I think that's a place where I can go and play right away," said Gibbs, referring to Cincy." - Inside Carolina

In a 60-57 consolation win over Tampa Prep, the No. 2 Class AA school in Florida, Gibbs had 18 points. - Atlanta J-C

12/5/01: "Generally speaking, interviews are conducted with prospects or their respective coaches. Occasionally, however, we “talk shop” with a young man’s mother or father. Such was the case recently as EliteHoopRecruits.com enjoyed a lengthy chat with Ms. Flowers, mother of talented 6-8 junior Corey Gibbs. Initially, Ms. Flowers stressed Corey’s academic achievements at prestigious Pace Academy in Georgia. In addition to maintaining a solid “B” average, Corey has already received a qualifying score on the SAT. However, according to his mother, Corey hopes to improve upon his previous score sometime this winter. Equally forthcoming with respect to his recruitment, Ms. Flowers told us North Carolina, CINCINNATI, Georgetown, Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Alabama have expressed the most interest at this juncture. Defending national champion Duke has also shown a degree of interest. "Matt Doherty said he wants Corey in the program," Ms. Flowers explained when asked about North Carolina and the status of the Heels in Corey’s recruitment. “He has always liked North Carolina, Duke, and Georgetown." An early decision, possibly at the conclusion of his junior year in high school, is a possibility but by no means a definite." - Elite Hoops

12/3: "Corey Gibbs, Atlanta (Pace Academy), recorded a triple-double scoring 33 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assist in leading Pace Academy to a 94 - 68 win over Holy Innocents." - Georgia Elite Hoops

11/15/01: "Corey Gibbs says UNC leads. Corey was impressed with UNC and says they still lead." - Georgia Elite

10/24: "is getting heavy national recruitment. Corey is handling his recruitment like a season veteran. He is taking several unofficial visits, and he plans to attend games at several schools. Corey has already passed the SAT and he is working hard to maintain a 3.0 GPA." - Georgia Elite

10/20/01: "Corey Gibbs, a 6-7, 225 pound forward from Atlanta (GA) Pace Academy, made an impression on a lot of people during his week at Nike Camp. He hit medium-range jumpers, attacked the glass and used his explosion off the ground to make his presence felt. He appeared hungry and that translates well with college recruiters. "I think I did pretty well even with all the camps I played a lot of basketball and wore my body down,” Gibbs said. During the early evaluation period numerous colleges rolled through to take a look at him. Kentucky, CINCINNATI, NC State, Georgia, North Carolina, Miami, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Florida, Furman and Florida State spent time watching him workout. Bob HUGGINS made a personal appearance to represent the BEARCATS. So far, he’s made unofficial visits to Georgia and Cincinnati. He says that trips to North Carolina, Miami and Florida State are likely to happen during his junior year. - Blue Chip Hoops

10/12/01: Unofficially visited Cincinnati's Midnight Madness

8/13: Listed as the 13th best player in his class. (LeBron #1) - PrepStars.com

8/7/01: Listed as the sixth best player at the NIKE camp, in his class. - Brick O., CNN SI

7/31/01: "Corey may be a bit undersized in the height department, but he makes up for it with raw power and athleticism around the basket. Few players in the Class of 2003 have shown more zest for physical competition around the basket on either end of the floor. Corey is also particularly effective as a transition finisher -- plenty of high majors are sure to get involved." - PrepStars

7/8: "An athletic junior with really long arms, he was extremely effective in the paint and on transition where he constantly beat bigger guys down the court. He's very strong and has open court abilities that suggest he could eventually thrive on the wing. Even snuck out and drilled a few mid-range jumpers." - PrepStars

7/01: Was listed as a 6-6, 224 lbs PF at the Nike Camp

12/31/00: "Corey Gibbs scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Knights to a third-place finish in the Atlanta Prep Classic" - Atlanta J-C
