8/5: Moved to Inactive List

7/13: Jamaal Davis - "Needs a little better game on offense. His shot, while not lacking, is not awesome either. The '1000 jumpers and call me in the morning' script would be beneficial to him too. Oh, Jamal also, IMO, needs to add about 10-15 pounds if he wants to be a great 4, cause he's got the intensity, defense, and post moves to do it." - Antonio Mazzaro / Forum

Davis, a 6-8, 230-pound forward from Gary, Ind., averaged 16.1 points and 9.4 rebounds while helping Barton County (Kan.) Community College to a 32-2 record and the No. 1 ranking in the final regular season poll. A .520 shooter from the field, Davis earned first team all-conference and all-region recognition and was a third team All-American. A three-time first team all-state selection while at Merrillville High, Davis played at Purdue in 1998-99 before transferring to Barton County for the 1999-2000 season.

6/20: "He is the real deal, a warrior who battled on the boards, created spacing for good inside looks at the hoop, and all-around played hard. Displayed good D against a couple different players as well. - Shawn Hunter, Summer League notes

6/20: "Jamaal Davis (#66): more impressive than Rod, but he has two more years of college ball, of course. Pounded the boards hard and hit one of two trey's. Had some blocks and did not seem intimidated at all." - Mike Ryan, Summer League notes

6/18: "of what I saw, he is a WARRIOR down low and has very determined
moves to the basket...he will be a monster rebounder for us offensively and defensively. He wasn't as smooth as I would have liked but this is summer ball, once he is in our system, he will be very effective...he isn't as thick or wide up top as I thought he would be but is very strong and physical...I guess this means that he will be more effective with his mobility in getting boards." - Tom Schroeder, Summer league notes

4/18: "The talented Merrillville,In. native that was released from Purdue University and who had a stellar season this year at Barton JC will be playing NCAA D1 hoops the next two years for Bob Huggins....Davis tells IBN Monday evening that he cancelled all other college visits and signed with Cincy after he met with the Cincinnati Athletic Director (Goin). The Director assured him that Coach Huggins was returning next season and that he was not leaving due to poor graduation rates or any other reason. All athletes at Cincinnati are easily College graduates if they take the initiative and decide what they need to do in order for earning a degree. IBN salutes our long time friend Jamaal Davis and his decision to accept the University of Cincinnati offer. We still expect John Davis,Jr. to be competing next season for Cincinnati State JC. He should graduate from Philadelphia Prep this June and join brother Jamaal in Beantown (huh ? -Mike) next Fall. - INBNews.com

4/18: His ratings coming out of H.S. are as follows: #28 (VC), #5 (Vitale), #14 (RR), #56 (HS), #12 (FS), #46 (PS)

4/17: "Davis signed a letter of intent last Wednesday and his mother added her signature this weekend, making it official." - Mike DeCourcy, Enquirer

4/14: "Reportedly Davis signed the papers on Wednesday (the 12th) at school and overnighted them to his home. They'll probably arrive at UC's offices by Monday. - Randy Shinkle

4/14: From INDIANA BBALL NEWS: "Merrillville, In. native Jamaal Davis is visiting the Cincinnati Bearcats this weekend. The Barton County soon-to-be-graduate will be at Cincy this weekend with mother Belinda Brown and brother John Davis,Jr. The talented 6'5" small forward brother's presence is just another reason to believe that Jamaal is near signing with the Bearcats. John did not graduate from Merrillville but will have his credentials this June. John will then matriculate to Cincinnati State junior college. John playing in the same town the next two years as the school recruiting his brother the hardest is obviously no coincidence. Look for Jamaal Davis to announce for Cincinnati in the next day or so. The extremely talented Davis has been on a roller coaster ride since the premature comparisons to Glen Robinson in his 8th grade year. Jamaal Davis is much more mature as a man than he was as an incoming freshman at Purdue University. IBN expects Davis to begin actualizing his huge potential at the next level when he signs with The University of Cincinnati !" - Indiana Basketball Report

4/7: "will make it official for Cincinnati this month during the Spring Signing Period. Davis, a 6-8, 235 pound power forward from Barton County C.C. in Great Bend, Kan., told JUCO Junction that he will sign with Cincinnati this spring. Bearcat Head Coach Bob Huggins and Asst. Coach Mick Cronin were in Great Bend on Wed. Apr. 5 to ensure that the deal will be sealed this month. Davis said he picked Cincinnati over Oklahoma, Fresno State, Providence, Washington State and Purdue. "It's close to home," Davis said from Great Bend on Thursday evening. "I fit in there well and I should be able to come in and play big minutes for them. It's a big-time school with a great winning tradition." Davis will make an official visit to Cincinnati from Apr. 14-16. This weekend, he will participate in a junior college all-star game in Cocoa, Fla. Davis averaged 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this past season in leading Barton to a #1 national ranking in the final NJCAA regular season poll. The Cougars were upset in the Region VI finals by Independence back on March 7. The Merrillville, Ind., native said he expects to graduate on time in May. Davis was set to commit back then but had second thoughts and considered taking some spring visits to sort things out. In the end, he liked Cincy's proximity to his Indiana hometown (four hours) and the Bearcat's tradition of success won out. - JucoJunction

4/6: "..It's officially over for Purdue and Jamaal Davis. After rumors of a commitment to Cincinnati proved false a few weeks ago, the ex-Boilermaker forward officially pledged to the Bearcats Wednesday, according to Barton County Community College coach Ryan Wolf. The Merrillville native signed with Purdue in 1997, but sat out his freshman season as a non-qualifier. In 1998-99, he played about a dozen games before leaving the team in December over a lack of playing time." - Purdue Rivals Site

3/22: "...will begin his tour of Division I college campuses this weekend. His first stop will be to either Fresno State or Oklahoma, his coach tells BIGEASTBRIEFS.com. In addition to Providence, Fresno State and Oklahoma, the 6-8, 235-pound Davis is looking at Purdue, Cincinnati and Washington State. "Right now I'm trying to set up a visit for Jamaal for this weekend," Barton County Community College (Kansas) coach Ryan Wolf tells BEB. "It will probably be to Fresno State or the University of Oklahoma". Davis is coming off a strong sophomore season in which he averaged 16.1 points and a team-leading 9.4 rebounds. Barton County, which was ranked No. 1 during the latter stage of the campaign, finished with a 32-2 record after losing to Independence Community College (Kansas) in the championship game of the Region VI tournament. Davis began his college career at Purdue, where he sat out the 1997-98 season as a partial qualifier. He played 12 games for the Boilermakers the following year before transferring to Barton in January 1999. - BigEastBriefs

3/10: "Jamaal Davis has Cincinnati atop his list of schools. In this interview with JUCO Junction >earlier this week<, Davis shared his thoughts about why the Bearcat program will be his likely destination in the fall. Bearcat Head Coach Bob Huggins and Asst. Coach Mick Cronin were in Salina Kan., on Sunday to watch Barton County defeat Coffeyville at the Region VI quarterfinals. JUCO Junction caught up with Davis a day later, and he said that Cincinnati led Providence, Oklahoma, Dayton, Xavier, Washington State, UCLA, Fresno State and Kentucky. "It's close to home and they are the number one team in the country right now," David said after helping Barton defeat Neosho County. "Coach Huggins is a good guy, and they need players to come in right off the bat and play hard." Davis said he had no immediate plans for an official visit. "I am still weighing my options out right now," he said. Barton's season ended on Tuesday (the 7th) with a loss to Independence C.C. in the Region VI Final." - Jucojunction

3/7: UC gets J.C. commitment BY MIKE DECOURCY Junior college forward Jamaal Davis committed Monday to attend UC next year. Coach Bob Huggins and assistant Mick Cronin were in the audience Sunday at Salina, Kan., when Barton County beat Coffeyville C.C. in the NJCAA Region VI playoffs, 101-53. Davis scored the game's first seven points. ?Jamaal's had a really good year,? said Barton County coach Ryan Wolf. ?He plays on a good team; he could average 25 or 26 points somewhere else.? Davis played 12 games for Purdue last season after sitting out 1997-98 to establish his eligibility. ?He practices hard every day, goes to class, takes care of business,? Wolf said. ?He's a really good kid.? - Enquirer

3/6: "Two months ago we told you that 6'8 Jamal Davis from Barton County (JC) KS was almost done for the University of Cincinnati, but it appeared that he wanted to wait until spring before making it official in order to take some visits. Well, our sources say (visits aren't) happening. Write him down for Cincinnati ! - HoopScoop

Davis originally signed with Purdue, but because of Big Ten rules can not go back to the Big Ten.

1/13: "While Cincinnati was thought to be the leader, Barton Coach Ryan Wolf told JUCO Junction that Davis' recruitment is more open than people think. He has seen his recruitment continue to pick up in recent weeks. Most recently, Kentucky Assistant Coach George Felton came to Great Bend on Jan. 12 for the Cougars' contest. In addition to Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Fresno State, Louisiana State, Xavier, Providence, Rutgers, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Florida, Auburn and Washington State are also in the mix with Davis." - JUCO Junction
