6/19: "Jimmy McKinney committed to MU today according to KSDK Channel Five in St. Louis. The news just broke in the last hour." - RivalsHoops
5/18: "One of most electrifying performers in the tournament, and a certain McDonald's All-American in our opinion, as we feel he is one of the best combo guards in the nation. Acrobatic and strong driving to the hoop, excellent leaping and scoring ability in traffic, and he can drill the three off the dribble. He handles well enough against full court pressure to play point, but does force the drive at times. The whole world is involved, but Kansas and Missouri may be hard to beat. Minnesota is one program coming on strong." - AllStar Report
5/9: #31 Junior. "The race is on to land this Show-Me State gem. He led his high school team to a pair of consecutive state titles in Missouri." - Sporting News
5/7: "I saw him just briefly this weekend and he did not look as tall as his listed 6'3. He did play some head to head against Dee Brown yesterday morning and Dee's team did prevail in a tight battle. Standing next to Dee he looked about 2 inches taller, maybe 3 inches at tops. Dee is only about 5'11 so I can't see McKinney being 6'3." - Peegs (snipped)
5/4/01: "Vashon High (Mo.) coach Floyd Irons isn't the only one at a loss for why more schools are beating down Jimmy McKinney's door to try and get the junior guard on their campus. McKinney is a little perplexed as well. He led the nationally ranked Vashon team in scoring this past season, but remains far down many recruiting experts rankings of the top shooting guards. "I'm surprised, but they'll open their eyes and see," says the 6-foot-3, 175-pound McKinney. "Basically, my goal this summer is to show everyone that I'm as good as everybody else out there." McKinney is a tremendous shooter who can get to the basket almost whenever he wants, but like so many at the high school level, he needs to improve his defense and get stronger. St. Louis and Missouri are the two colleges that have been showing the most interest, while both Illinois and Cincinnati have also gotten into the mix of late." - School Sports
4/13: St Louis Vashon finished ranked #3 in the country. "Heavily-recruited junior Jimmy McKinney (23.4 points) should eclipse 2,000 career points early next season." - USA Today
3/27/01: Listed as the 13th best SG in the country, regardless of class. (Purcell's Keith Jackson is 17th)
1/29/01: "Junior guard Jimmy McKinney led nationally ranked Vashon (MO) to a 67-37 win over Whitfield on Sunday, scoring a game-high 27 points. To date this season, McKinney is averaging 19.6 points per game for the Wolverines (16-1)." - All Star Report
11/20/00: "At 6-4, Jimmy McKinney (13.5 points) is one of nation's top juniors for defending 4A state champ." - USA Today
8/20/00: "Vashon shooting guard Jimmy McKinney very well could be the state's best junior next season. He showed flashes of his star potential at the Class 4A state championship game in March and again earlier this month in the title tilt of the Midwest summer high school basketball league in St. Louis. On both occasions, McKinney netted a game-high 19 points to lead Vashon to victory. McKinney reportedly has MU and St. John's atop the list of colleges he is considering." - Big12.net
7/7/00: "Coming out of nowhere -- well actually, out of the sky -- was 6-2 junior Jimmy McKinney (Vashon H.S./St. Louis), who exploded onto our radar screen when he came from 15 feet away and rejected a soft over-the-rim attempt by highly regarded 6-10 senior David Harrison (Brentwood Academy/Brentwood, Tenn). Harrison was shocked, and then received a double jolt of electricity when McKinney drove the baseline at the other end and attempted to throw down on him. He missed, but like a Pete Sampras double fault at 120 mph, he made an impression -- that he's a big-time athlete." - ESPN
