SIGNED WITH LOUISVILLE
9/24/02: Named the best Juco PG in the country. - Lindy's College Basketball Preview
11/7/01: "On Tuesday night, the Louisville Cardinals received some closure with PG Carlos Hurt. After further reviewing his decision to look around at some other schools and not sign a letter of intent in the fall, Hurt decided to sign with the Cardinals after all. "I am going to go ahead and sign early," Hurt told Rivals100Hoops. "I was going to visit Houston and Texas A&M, just to go back home and see some friends. But now, my parents promised me a ticket to go back and see them. Everything worked out for the best." So, Hurt spoke with his parents Monday evening and also had a chance to chat with Louisville head coach Denny Crum. The other night, Hurt said he didn't think his decision would impact Ousmane Cisse. Crum thought otherwise. "The reason why [coach Crum] needed me to sign in the fall was because I would have a big influence on Ousmane, David Harrison and Dennis Coutee. Really, we are going for Ousmane first. He can play the four, and Harrison can play the five. [Coach Crum] is a real convincing guy. He talked real well and I am sure he's dealt with somebody like this before." Now, Hurt turns his attention to helping hisCardinals secure a commitment from Cisse. "I've talked to him on the phone three of four times, and I'll continue to do that." - Rivals100 Hoops
11/6/00: "Hurt told Rivals100Hoops that he'd probably visit some more campuses before putting his signature on a letter of intent. This means that it's unlikely Hurt will sign with the Cardinals this fall. "I don't know when I am going to sign," Hurt said. "I don't know if I am going to sign in November or April." While Hurt doesn't come out and say he's not going to sign early, he certainly sounds like a young man who plans on seeing some more college campuses before giving anyone his signature. "Louisville is still my No. 1 choice but I just want a chance to take a look at my options. Most teenagers take all of their visits and I want to take mine too." For now, we'll count Hurt as a commitment to the Cardinals, but it would be unrealistic to think he's totally off the board. Hurt told Rivals100Hoops that Texas A&M, Houston, Cincinnati, Southern Cal, Florida, UCLA and Fresno State were among some of the programs who have attempted to contact him in recent days. Some schools have called and left messages; others have sent letters. You can expect some of the nation's heavy hitters will take their swings at "Los" if he fails to pen a letter of intent with the Cardinals in the early period (Nov. 8-15). While Hurt likes things in Louisville, admittedly, he's a little homesick for the Houston-area. Carlos thinks his decision won't have a real big affect on Ousmane Cisse, but it's no secret that Cisse will look for a school with a strong presence at the point guard position. Hurt plans on speaking with Louisville head coach Denny Crum Monday evening." - Rivals100 Hoops
VERBAL TO U OF L
7/6/00: Overall Ranking at the NBPA Camp per FastBreak Recruiting: #13
6/20: "Carlos Hurt, a prolific scoring left-handed 6-2, 175 pound point guard from Alief-Elsik H.S. in Houston, Tex., is close to making a decision, according to Carlos' dad. Hurt, a prolific scoring left-handed 6-2, 175 pound point guard from Alief-Elsik H.S. in Houston, Tex., is close to making a decision, according to Carlos' dad. Hurt is down to two schools -- Arizona and Louisville. "It's 50/50 for both schools," Carlos' dad told us. "It's going to be a tough decision." Hurt's dad told us that he expects a decision in the next two days. "Carlos has already visited Louisville and Arizona," Carlos' dad said. "He liked both coaches and visits." Previously, Hurt had a bevy of high major basketball programs pursuing him this spring. According to his AAU Coach Josh Pastner, Hurt was considering Texas, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Arizona, Southern California, Cincinnati and Louisville.Hurt averaged 24 points, six rebounds and two steals per game this past season at Alief-Elsik. He will attend the Nike All-American Camp in July and tour the summer circuit with the Houston Hoops program." - Insiders Report
6/4: "UC also is interested in a point guard, such as T.J. Ford or Carlos Hurt of Houston, and remains in the hunt for 6-8 forward Jawad Williams of Lakewood. Among big men, the Bearcats lead for 6-8 Jason Maxiell of Dallas." - Mike DeCourcy
6/1: "Carlos Hurt was the best PG that I saw all weekend at the Nike Bluegrass Classic. He showed an ability to run his team and still score 25 a game. His 45 ft bounce pass to a cutting teammate for a game tying lay-up was a thing of beauty. Not to mention his ability to blow past defenders for lay-ups. Hurt now seems to have Louisville as his leader but Arizona, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas, Duke, Syracuse, and Houston are still high on his list." - Midwest Hoops
6/1: "Carlos Hurt has yet to contact anyone at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. This, according to Oak Hill coach Steve Smith. "I have heard the rumor but no one has contacted anyone here," Smith said. According to his AAU Coach Josh Pastner, Hurt is considering Texas, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Arizona, Southern California, Cincinnati and Louisville. - Insiders Report
6/1: "the Irish got a commitment today from 6'8 Jr Jason Cornette from Cincinnati (St. Xavier) OH, who will be the #5 ranked junior in state when Chris Johnson sends us his list of the top players in Ohio later this month. Cornette was the one who not only guarded, but totally shut down 6'2 Jr Carlos Hurt from Alief (Alief-Elsik) TX late in the game. He also had the key block, as he rejected a Hurt 3-pointer that would have tied the game in the closing seconds. - HoopScoop
5/29: "This moning's Louisville paper reports that Carlos Hurt will make his college decision in July, probably at the Nike All-America Camp in Indianapolis. The Courier-Journal reports that he has 5 schools on his list, Texas, Texas A&M, Arizona, UofL, and UC. However, it also reports that Hurt's grandmother lives in Louisville, that both his mother and father are native Louisvillians, and are life long Cardinal fans. His dad said that he would love to have his son play for Denny Crum for 4 years, but that he isn't putting any pressure on his son. (He certainly implies that he feels there is a good chance Crum won't be at UofL for the next 4 years.) Anyhow, he's rated top 10 by Clark Francis, and the #1 pg in the country by Ron Briscoe of Regional Basketball Report. He wants to play immediately, and UofL has talked to him about moving Reece Gaines to the #2 slot. [At UC K-Sat would have to go pro, and he'd have to start at the point as an entering freshman ahead of Logan. While the former is probable, the latter is not likely, not from the get-go, anyhow.]" - Richard Kandell
5/9: "Far and away the best floor general at the event. He's a pure point guard who can go to the hoop, and create his own shot. His assist to turnover ratio was very low." - All Star Report, Spiece Tourney notes (interesting to see the contrast between these two Spiece reports...Mike Ryan)
5/8: "Carlos Hurt, PG, Houston Hoops, 2001: Wasn't his best weekend as he struggled with his shot and finishing plays. However, the talent is indisputable. - Rivals100Hoops, Spiece Tourney notes
5/4: "the #1 PG in the class of 2001" - MidWest Hoops
April 2000: "is a very good leader and has a scorer's mindset, but his court awareness and basketball IQ is 2nd to none in the junior class. While Hurt lacks the speed of top PG's like Terrance Ford or Jonathan Hargett, he excels by using his body to score, lean and drive through traffic." - UNCBasketball.com report on the Boo Williams Invitational
4/13: Named the 8th best player in the class of 2001 by Dave Telep of Rivals 100.
3/31: "..may elect to commit early, thereby continuing a trend prevalent among today's top school talent. During the course of a recent conversation, Carlos expressed a desire to sign early while identifying the NIKE Camp as a time period during which such a decision could be made. With that in mind, Carlos intends to shorten his extensive list of potential collegiate destinations to a more manageable number in the not too distant future. Carlos is presently considering Houston, Arizona, Louisville, Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, UCONN, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Texas, Florida State, and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. - ACC Recruiting Update
3/22/00: TX junior PG Carlos Hurt is going to have every opportunity to prove he's one of the best PGs in the Class of 2001. The Elsik star will travel with the Houston Hoops and attend the Nike All-American Camp. Arizona and Louisville have expressed big-time interest. Hurt's mother is from the Louisville-area and he's seen the Cardinals campus already this year -- he also went to Houston for an unofficial. In addition to Louisville and Arizona, schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, Kansas, Duke and Kentucky have expressed an interest in him. -- Rivals100
3/21/2000: "The Houston Hoops AAU team is going to be a tough out in any tournament they play in this spring and summer. Coach Pastner, has himself some top-notch talent. TX junior PG Carlos Hurt, one of the nation's finest, will run Pastner's offense. Hurt is a capable scorer and assist man. He ranks as one of the best PGs in the Class of 2001." - Rivals100
3/3/00: "...is averaging 17 points and 9.3 assists per game. Carlos told us that he has now added perennial powers Kentucky and UConn to his recruiting list. Those two top programs will join Houston, Arizona, Louisville, Duke, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Texas, Florida State, and Texas A&M-Corpis Christi. - ACCRecruiting Update
