One interesting note re Torrence Gibson: It appears likely that he'll redshirt, with two years left. He's enrolled at UC, as he needed too many credit hours to obtain his AB at Cincy State.
I like that Coach said he thought the team could win this year, compete for the conference championship. I may take abuse for this, but I think CTT left a pretty talented, young team for CLF. A main problem last year was that it was so young, with major assistant coach turnover, therefore many new coaches to acclimate to the players. I also think the classes got out of balance from the last years of Lyle, through the coaching change to CTT. Over 60% of last year's total roster was comprised of (true or red-shirted) freshmen and sophomores.
A good problem in 2015, 6 senior WRs, became a bad problem in 2016 (and no, I wouldn't have turned down the transfer WRs). A lot of folks think our QBs got stupid from '15 to '16, but I think WR inexperience really cost the team.
Bottom-line, I don't think the cupboard was left bare by any means.
**** has officially frozen over. The Dayton Daily News does not cover UC......they cover UD, O$U, Miami, and an occasional piece on Wright State. The only reason they did this interview is CLF happened to be in town and because of his O$U pedigree.
It was interesting. The most important part of this article, in my mind, was "As with anything, at the end of the day, Cincinnati must win games on the field for this to become a realistic possibility. If Fickell's teams don't find much success in the early going, the Bearcats won'Ât become a threat to snag recruits from Meyer and Co. "
This is so true. From where the team was November 25 until now, everything's been positive, there's been no losses, and all are buying in. But the team needs to win, and then win consistently.
Here's another excellent article about Fickell, emphasizing his recruiting style (& success, thus far). Could the following have been said about his predecessor?
"If the head coach doesn't set the example and he isn't the best recruiter on your staff and if he isn't the hardest working guy on your staff, if he isn"t trying to build those relationships it's a trickle-down effect," Fickell explained.

Yeah Jackson Carman was one of Fickell's first offers. He's a 5 star recruit High P5 player. OSU is after him as is MSU. He's camping at USC. My memory is fuzzy but if he even visited, I think it was a courtesy to Fickell. We're not getting this kid.
Meechi Harris is a different story. We have a good shot and we're in the mix. It's UC, UK, MSU, Maybe OSU (he visited and has an offer), Minnesota and Iowa St right now. He's got a number of offers most of which are high G5, low Big Ten/SEC type schools.
