That's an important incident. Death Penalty would be on the table for U of L if that's true. I doubt that would happen but I'd hate to be Chris Mack right now expecially with Sumner's name possibly coming up in the trial eventually.

        • Maybe we have a 1% chance of the ACC kicking them out and giving us their spot. We can dream can't we?

            • Here's Tim Sullivan's view from the Courier-Journal. He believes the death penalty is unlikely.

                • Reading about this trial, the tone of it is that the colleges are the victims of all this. In the end, the money guys will get some punishment, some assistant Bball coaches will have to fall on the sword for the colleges, but I don't think any college will suffer. And that's what's been going on for years anyway.

                  Any one reading this differently?

                  • Juan, If you're separating colleges from basketball programs then I think you're right. Some of these basketball programs are going to get sanctions and some HCs will get suspended or fired for lack of control. Pitino still claims he didn't know about the payments to Bowen and got fired anyway. He served a suspension earlier before all this. I think we'll see similar actions against Sean Miller and Bill Self. Those two are theoretically first time violators so I doubt they get fired but I can see a 9 game suspension from the NCAA or something like what Boeheim got a couple of years ago.

I can see some minor violations coming up against some programs, maybe even Xavier, since Sumner was connected to Andy Miller.

                      • "But text messages between Gassnola, Self and Townsend presented by defense attorneys on Monday indicated the Kansas coaches were at least aware of Gassnola's involvement in the Jayhawks' recruitment of current player Silvio De Sousa, a native of Angola.
The testimony and reveal of the text messages came during the federal criminal trial involving Adidas executive James Gatto, Adidas consultant Merl Code and Christian Dawkins, a runner for former NBA agent Andy Miller. The men are charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud by allegedly funneling money from Adidas to the families of recruits at Kansas, Louisville, Miami and NC State."

                        • If I’m Bill Self, I’d have my sgent scout out NBA opportunities.
