I disagree completely. I watched a dozen games over his two years and he never played defense. He scored 1000 and his player he guarded scored 1250. He would not have scored over 500 here unless he learned better defense.
When Huggins let him go, the hope/thought was that he would go and work on defense and rebounding, but he pretty much stuck to his game which is one reason he did not come back (the door was not necessarily closed).
I think he had some off court issues also, but I admit to a foggy memory there. I just don't think it was anywhere near a "mistake". Especially when you factor in how close DJ brought the Bearcats to the championship (had KM stayed healthy).

McGhee went to Vincennes not Cincy State. It proved to be a major
mistake by Huggins as McGhee scored 1000 points in his two seasons at
Oklahoma including a 16.0 average his senior year when he led Oklahoma
to the Final Four.

Aaron "Ace" McGhee transferred to Cincy State then to Oklahoma and this
opened up a slot for DeMarr Johnson. Good move on UC's part as DeMarr
filled the missing shooting guard slot which was the last piece of the
puzzle for a championship run. Worked out well for Ace as he flourished
at Oklahoma where they ended up having several great years while he was
there.

Calhoun intimated he would consider opening his roster for recruits. I
think it stinks. Just as I thought it did when Huggins did it a few
years
back to one of his guys. Can't remember the kid's name, but I think he
went
to a TX school, maybe OK and had a fine career there.

Personally I think the same as many other people. Calhoun plays dirty.
