Mr. Fairchild,

I'll be honest...I don't know anymore about these guys
than what I read in the newspaper. So, no I don't feel
comfortable giving you a 4 star rating for each new
recruit and giving you a A- for the entire class. (I'M
NOT AN EXPERT) But, I do know that these guys chose
Cincinnati over some pretty good college basketball
programs and that tells me enough to say that Cronin
is doing a GREAT JOB! Did you really expect more for
next season? Of course not... cuz your a smart guy and
only idiots could have dreamed they could have done
better given the circumstances.

Also, I don't care what you copied and pasted about
Warren. He is a solid pg... and will only improve with
a year under his belt.

Pete,

I believe you make my point and again said little
close to nothing.

You rave about the great job Mick has done
recruiting, yet some how neglect
to mention anything about the players in the
recruiting class. It seems
that those two things should some how go together.

In your subsequent post about point guards , you
suggest we don't have a
problem. You say, "Warren- steady ball-handler with
low turnovers." Are
you on crack? He had 72 turnovers with only 97
assists a 1.3 ratio. Taron
Barker in his senior year had 140 assists and 49
turnovers. Vaughn had 73
turnovers and only 106 assists.

Further, Vaughn was a 75% free throw shooter; Warren
was 60%! When the
score is close and we are late in the game, who is
going to handle the ball
when the other team has to foul?

I know, it takes a little bit of work to look up the
stats and actually
think, especially when they don't really support
what you want to believe.

I agree, there were times when Vaughn demonstrated
he could dribble
penetrate. He also passes well. He was used
primarily at the 2 guard this
season. It is hard to know how well he would do
handling the point for a
full 30-35 minutes.

I'll wait to see Henry play the point before
commenting on him. From what I
read, he is a wing player (one article mention
DerMarr Johnson, others have
said James White).

Again, given the recent conversations about
recruiting and point guards, and
the importance of good point guard play for
tournament success, it's my
opinion, we do not have a solid court general in the
fold or even on the
horizon.

Mr. Fairchild,
My apologies for not posting up to your standards.
You
asked what makes this recruiting class "great"?...
and
I say nothing. I never said this was a great
recruiting class but that Cronin once again did a
great job recruiting. There is a difference. He has
been recruiting to an absolute mess of a program for
the last two seasons and has been able to somehow
pull
solid recruits out of nowhere. With the past two
recruiting classes... Cronin has eased the painful
rebuilding process and restored hope to many Bearcat
fans. Please... and I'm sure you will... point out
any
flaws in my reasoning.

Pete,

Thanx for the cheer. Now could you put a little
substance to your post?

What are you expectations? How does this
recruiting
class exceed them?

What makes this recruiting class "great"?

It's odd because I see more questions than
answers.
Given the two greatest
needs - a 5 and a pg, this class comes up empty so
far.

From what I read, it is not clear that everyone
in
this class will be suited
up come Midnight Madness.

So given those expectations - 1) we would recruit
to
meet needs and 2) we
recruit players who will be good student athletes,
it is not clear how good
this class is or will be.

Finally, before you shift the debate - note, I did
not say anything about
Cronin's ability to recruit. The focus of this
thread is the class that we
have. So, let's leave aside any distracting
responses, and focus on the
quality of the class.

I look forward to your constructive, well
reasoned,
and substantial
response.

Some say that I'm a downer, I think this
demonstrates I'm an optimist.

Once again.... Mick Cronin has gone above and
beyond
my expectations. He did an amazing job putting
together a competitive team this year and is now
putting the finishing touches on another great
recruiting job. There aren't many young, beginning
head coaches out there that could have recruited
to
a
decimated program the way Cronin has been able.

Six players are scheduled to return next year,

eight.
That leaves five available scholarships, given
that
everyone returns. Three are already spoken for
by
signees (Belton, Bishop & Davis).

On his final radio show Monday night, Mick said
he'd
sign one, two, or possibly three, players during
the
spring period. He couldn't mention names, but
Jason
Henry and now, apparently, Alvin Mitchell have
verballed. That makes thirteen, given that
Henry
and Mitchell actually sign on.

The only way Mick could sign a third player
(Anthony
McClain, perhaps?) would be if something
happened
in
regard to an existing scholarship holder or
signee.
Who knows what that could turn out to be?
