Re: APR - Top 10 List - Ohio Recruits - Don (Yates)

According to one source I looked up, only 58 coaches have coached in more
than 20 NCAA tourney games in the last fifty plus years. Huggs is of course
one of them.

So it will take a while before we can decide if Mick is as great as his
former mentor.

#4 Don, I think Mick Cronin can win more games than Tony Yates with his
eyes
closed. Yates was a solid player and a great recruiter (with help from his
assistants Lincoln, Grant, Hamilton, etc). But he was a mediocre coach.
Mick
is a very fine young coach. No comparison to Yates at all. BTW I'm
55 now.

I'll give you Mick is a fine young coach although I'm only lukewarm about
that. The question is will he become a great coach like Huggins is. I know
you
are 55 and I've always wondered just how much a 7 year old in 1958 could
know
about college basketball. I was 16 playing high school basketball and I'm
sure I knew more about college basketball then than you did. You haven't
quite
caught up with me as yet either. Don
