Last year I don't think Mick screwed up. Having Williamson in there at the end of the UAB game, I would call that a screw up, but he may have decided a "warm" Williamson was better than a cold Brandon Miller or whoever he would have put in. I don't remember exactly who the other 4 on the floor at the time were and who could have come in off the bench for the inbounds play. The defensive error letting Delany get off the 3 with ~30 seconds left, I am not sure you can attribute that to the coach. My guess is they knew and were instructed to play defense. I have seen a ton of defensive lapses this year, but I am not sure it is a coaching thing. It is hard to teach intensity and Mick was stuck with what was available. I think a lot of people who did not appreciate Huggins defensive approach can now see how important some of those players were. To put it in perspective, it is obvious that Barwin is probably the most technically and fundamentally sound player, but he cannot score. When you have a team that is not very capable of playing defense, it is tough to figure out, do you put him in for defense, or do you try to score because you can't play good defense? I know I don't know the answer.
All MHO.

Subject: [UC Basketball] Still Not Outcoached...
My point was the great plays were made by individuals (James White last year, Paul Delany this year) to determine the outcome. Coaching sometimes does but very rarely. Players usually do.
I saw the UC/Murray St game last year in person. I didn't see UAB but it seemed similar to me.
