My impressions of our new players after the 1st few glimpses of them.
Warren-steady, all-around PG. Not a scorer in the Van Excel/Logan mold,
but much more so than a Taron Barker or Michael Horton. Will get a few
steals. Looks like he's 30.
Gentry-good outside shooter. Committed a lot of fouls last night.
Williamson- a real scorer. Might lead the team in scoring the next 2
years. Doesn't remind me of Pete Mickeal, as suggested by Paul
Daugherty, tho a lefty & same size. Pete was less of a shooter & more of
a floor game player.
Vaughn-did remind me of Steve Logan. Good at taking the ball to the
basket. Some good passing. Was lost on defense. Haven't seen much of his
outside shot yet. Will need to adjust to the speed of college ball.
Crowell-didn't see much to indicate that he'll be helpful. Moved fast
around the perimeter, but without accomplishing much.
Sikes- looks like a role player. Some rebounds, guarded taller players
in the post. Might help as a frontcourt player off the bench.
Lewis- a completely unknown walk-on!

NKU was horrible. I can't believe Cripe was the same player who
dominated
the same gym a year ago.
Williamson is a scorer. Warren is a definite starter. Of course Ced is
the
best player. I'll predict at least one of those guys will be 2nd team
All
BE. Adam and Hernoll are sorely needed to compete w/ the upper half of
the
BE. Otherwise, the team is 7 deep.
Sikes is a question mark.
Ronald Allen looks like he put on some weight but is still not a quality
player. He almost fouled out.
Crowell needs to push the ball.
A lot of the screen sets were vintage Pitino. Mick looked very
comfortable
on the bench.
Bottom line this team will play hard but given the schedule do not
expect
the NCAA...NIT is very possible.
Last point, you can get to the west side of 5/3 directly now by going up
the
stairs next to the recreation center.

I'm not a doom and gloomer. I am very excited for the Cronin era. I
that at the end of the day, UC will be better off (on numerous levels)for
getting rid of Huggins - although I disagree with how the situation waslet's
handled.
That said, NKU is a division II team (and not a good one this year at
that). Nice for the guys to go up against some other players, but
see how they do when they tee it up against some division 1 schools. ID2
would not say this is a "problem," but, again, we are talking about a
team . . .what

Looks like there might some hope for this year. I just can't wait for
all you "doom and gloomers" to get started. Anybody want to predict
the problem with this game is going to be?
