Donovan has been at UF since the 1996-97 season. Slay arrived for the 1998-99 season.
As a bit of side info, Donovan's first two seasons were losing ones (27-32 overall), but the Gators made the NIT in his second year, after going 14-14 in the regular season. They've won at least 20 games every year since, including two Final Fours and the current National Championship.
If Cronin can survive the carping of some fans for a couple years, I think we'd take the same results.

Did we play against Donovan at Marshall when they had Tamar Slay or was he
already at Florida?

If Coach Cronin can duplicate some of the success Billy Donovan has enjoyed
at Florida, I think UC will be in great shape.
Before Billy's arrival, Florida had some success under Lon Kruger including
a trip to the Final 4. Billy's "only" credentials were:
1. Assistant at a top flight school
2. Head coach at a mid major
Sound familiar?
Age: 41; head coaching stops: Marshall and Florida; won national title in
2006; has made two national title games (2000, '06); two SEC titles; he's
winning at nearly a 70 percent clip at Florida (226 wins in 10 seasons)
