I tend to agree with you. Herrera has to learn to take the rebound back to
the basket strong and not bring the ball down. I don't want him to be
ineligible, I just want him to learn faster. Still a big body to throw out
there. Impressed with Williams, looked every bit of 6'7 or 8. I thought
Sikes had a nice jumper, or is it that he doesn't want to rebound? Just
remember, that's only about half the team, but they also missed a lot of
free throws, especially near the end. That concerns me. Hopefully that was
a one time thing.

This was my first game also, hoping to see Hall. There is a lot of work to
do, but I feel everyone seems coachable. Was Jamaal Warren there? I
recognized Vaughn, sikes, Williams, gentry, crowell(hard to miss) Herrera
and I think Williamson.

Anyway, I hope they learn to play better than today. But I still think Mick
will find a way... Hey if you noticed 2 guys each with a little girl down
by the basket on the floor with a bearcat cheerleading outfit that was my
daughter and I.

Subject: [UC Basketball] Slats Game Today

Went to my first Slats game today and it wasn't pretty. Slats lost big time,
game was called with 1:38 left, and NO HERNOL. Ronald Allen also strolled in
about 5 mintues into the second half. Don't know if he's playing for another
team today or what.

Now the game did shed a little light on some of my concerns for the
upcoming year. Crowell will be fine running the show, had a nice leave
behind for Mike on a fastbreak. Tilford may be ready to step up and play
this year. He went on an 8 point run early in the second half when Slats was
down big and brought the game back to within a few buckets. Gentry is a poor
mans James White. He has some moves but needs to work on his mid range game.
Sikes impressed me the most, seems to be the best perimeter shooter at least
for this game. Deonta Vaughn was nonexistant. I can't recall him doing
anything of importance.

If anyone was at the game I hope they agree with this next comment. I
hope Abdul somehow becomes ineligible for this season too. What exactly he
was doing today is a question to me. Several missed chipshots, constantly
bringing the ball down to his waist and being stripped. Jennings ate him
alive and if he made any of his outside shots Herrara would have looked even
more like dead weight. D'Juan was on his back the whole game, and Levett
seemed just about fed up with the way the team played today. I'll be at the
semis and championship should Slats make it. Interested to see if anyone
shares my views on today and if anything better has been shown up to this
game.
