I guess you got me there. I suppose i meant by last time we had all jucos, we went to the final four, as something to be hopeful about. But realistically i am hoping that micks players(jucos) dont fit the mold that huggs jucos had the past 5 years. As for summer league performances, i guess that it means absolutely nothing. I am still hopeful and am more excited than i have been for the past 5 years. I do believe that this team will be better overall than last years. We are deeper, and finally have size. When is the last time we have 3 6'10 guys and a 6'9 body. I am optomistic. I am however worried that we dont have a quick SF, not sure williamson is nimble enough, since i have yet to see him play in summer league.
We will probably disagree to some extent on predicting their success this year, but we are both bearcat fans.

Brad,
Fair points. Though wasn't it you, last week, asking us to compare this
years recruits to Huggins 1992 recruiting class?
If you would be so kind, could you add a fact or some data to go along with
your opinions, assumptions and platitudes?
I appreciate your report from the summer league - here is a report from 2
years ago - I think you will find it illuminating:
"I just got back from the Summer league and I came away picking my jaw off
the floor after James White's performance tonight. His athleticism and
all-around talent is undeniable, I can see what had NBA scouts projecting
him as a top ten pick in this years draft had he stayed at Florida. He had
three monstrous dunks, one where he took off from just inside the foul line
and I think he only missed 2 shots on the night. It looks like he is running
up steps when he jumps. He was jab-stepping ala Carmelo Anthony and knocking
down 3's. He also hit a 3 from NBA range after shaking a defender off him.
He also seems to be a talker and plays to the crowd. Even though this is the
summer league, he is an all around exciting player, who brings a ton of
energy and athleticism to the court.
I also came away impressed with Whaley, his face and build remind me of
Grove, but he carries his weight in his chest, unlike Grove. He is also very
nimble and has a surprisingly good handle for someone that big. Also, he has
a nice array of low post moves, although he can't shoot free throws to save
his life (what else is new). Pilgrim is very active and athletice and
knocked down a couple 3's, although he has a funky shot with a hitch at the
top of it."

Im just going to assume that last 5 years jucos, are not a reflection of
this years. Huggs, and Cronin are different, they recruit different
players, they have different styles. Im not comparing last 5 years any
thing, to now. You can no longer use Huggs stats to Cronins incoming
players. So your point is invalid.
Life is 90% attitude.
wrote:I prefer realistic. We have all read the rave review of incoming players
and then they experience the inevitable learning curve that comes with
moving from JUCO competiion to the highest level of Div 1 basketball. By
all measures, Mick has done an incredible job recruiting, given the
circumstances. Still, that does not change the circumstances, we are
getting talent that has been picked over.
Let's see what type of team we would have will all the JUCO transfers and
James White over the past 5 seasons:
2005-6 - Cedric McGowan 26.3 min 8.9 pts 7.3 reb
2004-5 - Jihad Muhammad 25.7 min 10.4 pts 3.0 reb
2003-4 - Robert Whaley 13 min 5.8 pts 2.5 reb
2003-4 - James White 25.1 min 7.9 pts 4.0 reb
2002-3 - Tony Bobbit 13.6 min 8.0 pts 1.8 reb
2002-3 - Kareem Johnson 15.4 min 2.4 pts 4.3 reb
2002-3 - Derek Hollman 6.7 min 0.8 pts 0.7 reb
2001-2 - Taron Barker 11.3 min 2.5 pts 1.6 reb
The good news is that the incoming players should be able to get more
minutes, so their production should be greater. The bad news is that they
won't have the benefit of a veteran nucleus to hide their mistakes. Also,
this does not give any indication of their defense. I suspect we will all
be wanting to throw things at times because the defensive rotations will not
be as good as we are accustomed.
Key moment from Bobbit's first year - against Gonzaga in the first round of
the NCAA - in the final seconds, UC needs a big basket to tie or win - they
call time out - Bobbitt does NOT pay attention as they draw up a play for
him - he is out of position on the play - UC doesn't get a good shot.
Makes you want to throw something.

Kris,
You should go down and catch them at woodward high school man. It will
ease your mind, this team, in my oppinion will be top 5 of big east. I
trust mick, and seeing them play is reassuring. Williamson, Warren, and
Hall are going to be quite the players. These are 3 of the best players
weve recruited in a while. Mike Williams i am surprised didnt have more
minutes at texas, dude is already a pro. Unfortunately he wont be playing
until 07. Furthur more, i am confident this team will exceed most peoples
expectations. I can see alot of people dont really want to get too excited
until they see results, but after seeing them play i see huge things for
them. I will go so far as to say we will be an ncaa shoe in, and will
compete with the big boys in the beast. G'town is the only team i think
with much more talent.

Bobbit and his selfishness were just too much for me to handle. There
should be a list of the most frustrating Bearcats to watch. Regardless,
hereing you say hard-working...THAT is what I want to hear. I can live with
this team only being a few games over .500 (considering the situation) if I
watch the games and see the players working their butt off. That at least
makes you proud of them, right? That's how I felt last year.

I remember loving watching bobbit play, he played with alot of intensity.
I enjoyed watching him play, and im sorry you didnt. He shot close to 45%
from 3 so that is just fine with me. Muhammed i can feel your pain on, he
pissed me off 9 out of 10 shots.
I know how it is to be frustrated when players dont contribute, but i
can see that this team will do a great job of contributing. These guys are
some hard workin dudes, watched them in summer league .
Kris Rose wrote:
I think Bobbit will have to go down as one of the top 5 most frustrating
Bearcats I've watched on the court (I'm not counting guys like Donald
Little
who were just disappointing in general). I mean, the kid had talent, but he
was such a selfish player and never met a shot he didn't like. Thinking of
his exploits on the court just puts me in a bad mood. As for the new guys,
it's not really about expectations, it's more of a feeling thing when
watching them. Do they seem to contribute and give it their best? Do they
make me want to applaud them or throw things at the TV? I mean, I think
Muhammed may not have improved as much as many liked, but I enjoyed
watching
him and normally felt he was at least working hard and TRYING. I can't say
that for some other players (here's looking at you Armein).

Yah, Muhamad didnt get any better his 2nd year here, and bobbit played
better than he was expected to his senior year. Im not sure what
expectations were of these players, but its kind of rediculous to set.
standards on a player who hasnt played yet...juco is not division 1,
players have a clear slate in my oppinion until i see them.
Kris Rose wrote: I'll 2nd all of those opinions.
I dont understand how any of them were
"fine". I"m a pretty laid back fan, but Bobibit and Muhhamad especially
made me want to throw things at them...often.

Just hung up with Billy Shermin, one of the organizers of the
playSummer League, and he informed me that in fact *Hernol Hall* will
in
bethe SL, as BearcatNews first mentioned over a week ago. Saturday will
whatHall's debut.
However, there is a time change for the games this weekend.
Slats will play at 2pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday, as opposed to
the
listed schedules have in the program and on the website.
See ya there.
